Hi everyone!
I’m starting my Junior year at UCLA as a CC transfer. I transferred in one year as a political science major, and am holding a 4.0. I know that UCLA is much harder than Community College, so I’m hoping to take some online CC courses this Fall while taking my UCLA classes (it’ll boost my undergrad GPA for grad school, I hope).
I took 12 units this summer, and kept high As in all of them. And I took 18.5 units last semester, and 15 before that, and kept a 4.0. I’m sure that I can keep my 4.0 at CC in the Fall.
Would it be a good idea, though, to take CC classes concurrently? I’m hoping to take 18 units at my CC while taking 12 units at UCLA. I know it’s a lot of units–worst case I’ll drop my 18 units to 6 or 9 or something.
Should I just focus on UCLA instead? And do more ECs on campus? What do y’all think?
I’m not looking to get credit at UCLA, just to look more competitive for grad school, so technically I can take them.
The problem I see is that the majority of your upper division units for graduation at UCLA have to be taken at UCLA. Depending on your program, you may not get a diploma from UCLA if a number of your units are from the CC. There is a maximum that you can transfer.
Have you advised UCLA?
I’ll still meet my upper division requirements, since my major covers the number. I wouldn’t show UCLA my CC units, because I’m not doing it to graduate early or for the units–just to look more competitive for grad school.
This is a stupid idea, right? It’d be better to enter UCLA with more free time for ECs and internships and friends, right?
Yes, as a parent, I feel you should be looking for an internship or research opportunity to show grad schools your experiences.
