Taking Chem 230 Pass/Fail (BME)

Hi,

I'm a sophomore Biomedical Engineering Major at University of Michigan. I stupidly, at the beginning of the year, enrolled for Chem 230, or generic Physical Chemistry for premeds. I found out, a week after the add/drop deadline that for my major, I need a class called BME 221, which is Physical Chemistry for BMEs. Taking Chem 230 will NOT get me out of taking BME 221, which means I HAVE to take both these classes. My course/research load is very heavy this semester.

I was wondering if it would look bad on a transcript for Med School to take Chem 230 (Which I really don't need) pass/fail. I would later "reveal" the grade on my transcript. I just don't want to stress out about this stupid class I don't need, because I eventually have to retake pchem later. will this look bad?

When my son declared his major (a few weeks ago) (he is also a sophomore in the COE) his advisor went over his current class schedule with him and it was decided that my son drop one of his math courses. The course that he dropped (Discrete Mathematics) is a required EECS course but can be taken either the 1st/2nd semester of the sophomore year. He is currentlyly taking Math 216 which is recommended for 2nd semester sophomore year, so no problem

Whatthefoucault, when you declared your major, didn’t you meet with your advisor at that time. I would have thought that your advisor would have asked you why you were taking the optional Chem 230 instead of the required BME 221 or when did you plan to take BME 221?
