Taking classes OTHER than major

Is it possible to take classes outside of one's major in college? Obviously general ed is not really in one's major if it is engineering, but what if I went to UCLA, majored in Aerospace engineering, and wanted to take some courses in a language without minoring in it? Can you do that?

Also, would it count towards GE?

It depends on the school and the major. It’s the norm to take a fair number of elective courses with a liberal arts major; tech and fine arts degrees may demand all the available hours outside of GE. Check UCLA’s catalog, subtract the number of GE hours and the hours required for AE from the number needed for graduation, and see what you have left.
