Taking classes outside your major? Premed classes?

So, I'm a dual-enrolled high school student, and I will graduate high school with my AA degree, and I'm going to try to major in Computer Science (yes, I'm trying to get most of my prereqs), but I have a question out of curiosity, if I'm taking CS classes, would I be able to sign up for a Biology 2 class if I had the room for it in my schedule? I've had a hard time debating engineering, CS, and premed. And while I still enjoy bio, chem, and the study of the human body, I don't think medical school (or nursing) is the right path for me. But, I want to take some premed classes and see how feel while I'm at college. Idk if I'll take all the med prereq class, as I'm not planning on going to med school, but I think it's possible that I might change my mind while I'm at college (or I might decide to do PA school, vet school, etc). I'm taking Bio 1 at a CC right now. Do you think it'll be hard for me to take any bio or chem class? Would it be easier to get into something like orgo, biochem, microbio, or Anatomy/Physiology?

If you didn’t declare your major with a pre-med track than you might have a hard time. Of course you can sign up for them but financial aid and/or the school can refuse to pay for them reason being they want you to graduate on time and they don’t want to pay for a bunch of classes outside of your major.

I don’t know if you’d necessarily have a hard time, because you can always change your major to undeclared and take both types of classes, right? People change their minds and majors all the time, I don’t know why it would be a problem if you’re a freshman…

You need to take chem 1 and 2 before orgo though, and orgo 1 and 2 before microbio (for pre med/PA school majors) so I’d just finish your biology sequence before tackling any of that.

the pre-med track isn’t really going to give you a taste of the medical profession. but it wont be difficult at all to take those classes. comp sci also requires you to have a minor–so you not only will have time to take other classes, you are required to.

i’ll leave this here:
[Office of the University Registrar](http://www.registrar.ufl.edu/catalog/programs/minors/plantbio.html)

Thanks for the info. And I didn’t know that a minor was required for Comp Sci. Is it possible to take enough classes like a minor without specifically getting a minor?

if you really want to. you can do pretty much whatever you want, its just a matter of making time for it. some semesters you will have an extra slot, other times you wont, and other times it’ll be in between. if its spring and you think you want to take a class in the fall but don’t have time, just take a class or two at your local CC over the summer, or take summer classes at UF.
