Taking college classes at a uni that is 45 minutes drive/3 hour bus+Metro away

What do you guys think about having to drive 45 minutes or bus and take the Metro for 3 hours to and from a university for classes during the summer? It will be 3 times a week. Is the time to get to and frmo there too long? Should I consider other options?

I wouldn’t do it. Unless you can use your car everyday the commute would be mad annoying for just university classes.

My daughter took one or two buses, rode a subway, and walked for a total of 2 hours and in reverse to go home 3 x/wk for 6 weeks last summer to take a course for credit at a top university between Soph and Junior year.
I think it definitely added to her maturity and overall experience to do a serious commute like that.
She learned so much: how to deal with scheduling, public transportation, what a super sized/ highly selective uni feels like on campus and in the classroom, and she may have discovered her major in college, ie the topic of the course. She also discovered whether she wanted to apply to that uni.

Your situation involves a THREE hour commute each way, which does seem very long, even with all the benefits.
Is there a way for you to spend two nights a week there or somewhere along the commute somehow? Is there anyone (a student, a professor, a friend) who you can carpool with for all or part of the way?

Also, you do need to weigh this option with any others you have that are more convenient.
Hope you can figure this out!!!

haha okay well i checked again and it’s actually 2 hours and 30 minutes…but yeah. ugh sigh. :frowning: thanks pizza and mom.

What do you guys think about a 1.5 hour long commute? i’m thinking about having my parents drive me halfway then bus+Metro the rest.

Why though? Taking at a more local community college wouldn’t be that bad, or even online if it comes to that.

My community college does not offer Neuroscience classes nor does it offer Economics classes beyond the introductory level.

SP,
No one can answer this for you. If you do a commute this long, you will need stamina. And you will need a plucky attitude with a sense of adventure.
How important are these courses? Where are you in your education? What other types of summer experiences would be helpful to you?
If you really want this, you can do it. But it is really your decision.
Best of luck!
