Taking enough AP classes for Columbia/similar schools

I'm taking AP Lang/Comp and AP chem this year as a junior and doing well in both, and the rest of my courseload is honors classes. Next year I know I'm taking a history and an english AP but I'm hesitant to add on another AP class because I don't know if I can handle it. I want to show colleges I've taken the most challenging courses I can, but I don't want the rest of my grades to suffer. Should I take AP Calc (AB) or AP foreign language? I think both are equally difficult. I'm not crazy about the language teacher and I'm not crazy about math. Do I need 3 AP classes senior year to be competitive for Columbia and schools like Princeton, Georgetown, Pomona, Wesleyan, etc?

Number of AP’s you take totally depends on your school. For example, at my high school, taking only 3 AP’s senior year will actually look uncompetitive-since a lot of students are takign 7, 8 AP’s. However, if your school maximizes your AP load (some schools cap at 3), of if your high school dont offer that many AP’s and you’ve truly gone out of your way to take the most demanding courseload at your high school, then your perfectly fine.

I would say take Calc AB, just because of my horrible experience in my AP foreign lang class last year =D

Thanks! My cap would be 4, so that’s why I’m concerned. I’m leaning towards calc…

AP Calc is so painful if you’re not a math person and you have a difficult teacher. But, I’m not a math person and I /somehow/ managed to get an A in that class, so if you’re dedicated its possible.

I think AP Calc is more respected usually than a foreign language though, so I’d say take that…
