So my school sucks, I knew it sucked but now it officially sucks. My school only offers 6 AP classes and I don't like that. My question is how many AP classes would be good for Columbia??? Should I self study other AP classes?? Or should I just go to another school that offers at least 8 AP classes??

lucky: there is no magic formula to getting into columbia.

the thing to do is ask yourself what is your purpose in taking all the classes. do you want to learn about the subject? do you just want to ‘appear’ smart? do you want to challenge yourself? so don’t feel as if you must at this moment decide what to do, take the classes, find what you want, read as much as you want.

columbia reads you in the context of your school. if you take all 6 APs and then also decide to self-study for others, that is awesome. they don’t expect you to take every AP class in the world.

lastly, your school doesn’t suck. there are many schools that do not offer any AP classes, offer 1, 2, 3. i think holding a broader perspective that having any AP courses at all is a big thing. your goal now: take advantage of what you have, and figure out what you want and achieve it.

Thank you so much admissionsgeek (nice name btw). I was having a sucky day and you just brougt my spirits up. Columbia isn’t everything and I feel like I’m putting too much value on it. I want to ake them for many reasons, all of which you mentioned. But anyway I will take those 6 AP classes, maybe take some online and also self study.
