Taking SAT four times

I was planning on taking the SAT three times or fewer, depending on when I got the score I wanted. First time, above 2000. Second time, just below 2200. Third time, I was sick and didn't do as well as I wanted...ended with the same score as my second test. Fourth time was the charm, as I got 2300+.

How is this going to look to colleges that don't accept score choice? Half of the colleges I am applying to use score choice; the other half do not.

Everything else is good...GPA, class rigor, SAT II's, EC's, ect...it's just the four SAT tests that stand ou.

Wait, i thought it was hurtful for you college acceptance chances if you take it more than 2 times.

If you take your SATs too many times it makes you look like someone obsessed with just marks, but, getting 2300+ is great, and schools that let you have choice will want you, and schools that don’t let your have choice will have to compare it with your other marks, which seem to be solid - so you should be fine, don’t worry! :)

It wont be that big of a deal

Why do people care so much about retaking the SATs too many times? Obviously you don’t want to go around taking each test six times, but I highly, highly doubt an admissions officer will look at an application and say, “Oh no! This candidate took the SAT Reasoning four times! REJECT!” There’s a post by tokenadult, a CC moderator, that says that he once asked a Harvard admissions officer regarding taking tests multiple times. She replied, “Take the test as many times as you want. It won’t hurt you.” Of course, I’m sure she meant this within reason.

I’ll search for the link to that post, but in the meantime, I just want to tell the OP that it’s okay if you took the test four times. People have bad days. The admissions officers will see that the third time didn’t represent your best effort and understand.

Now, where did I last see that post…

EDIT: Here it is: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/4265636-post12.html</a>

Ms. Topalian actually said, “Take it ten times if you want; it’s not going to hurt you.” Wow, wasn’t expecting that at all…
