Taking semester off freshman year?

I’ve found myself in a bit of a mess. Last fall during college app season, I was unsure of the direction I wanted to take, and I opted to just apply to a CC for my first year where I could live on campus and decide from there where I wanted to go. Well, around March I solidified that I 100% want to head into a medical pathway and eventually attend med school. Problem being, a CC was my only option as it was the only place I applied. I hope to transfer to a university for my sophomore year. I am paying for my schooling completely on my own and am struggling just to come up with funds for my first semester, as my parents will not take out a loan for me… after first semester I will have 29 of the 30 credits required to transfer so ultimately my question is,
does it look bad to take my spring 2016 semester “off” and work full time while taking one last class at a closer CC so I can live at home? I would be able to complete the last portion of transfer necessities and save up enough money for the next year at a university. explaining this to grad schools will be tricky, won’t it? all around I am very confused and frustrated and would appreciate input. Thanks!

taking a semester or a year off to work, earn money and gain focus wont reflect poorly in your application.

At this stage, don’t worry about things you can’t change. Do your best at the venue you have and see where that leads you. Also, your parents are wise to avoid debt.

Many schools only accept Jr level transfers (60+ semester units) in the Fall term. That will limit your options. It may be wise to do 60 units at your local CC, save all that room and board, then transfer.
