Should I take the SAT as a sophomore? I know most people take it junior year, but I want to get it over with. I took it in 8th grade and got a 1960.

If you feel like you're ready, go ahead :) You can always take it again if you don't do well. I took it as a sophomore.

Just remember that whatever score you get, you will probably get a higher score when you are a junior or a senior.

This is mostly because you are more familiar with college material through harder high school courses and you become more mature.

Take it if you feel you are ready.
If you took it before for some sort of program (CTY, Duke TIP), that will help you out a lot.

I took them in 7th grade and got a 1470 (780 Math, 690 Verbal).
I took them again in 8th grade and got a 2350 (800 Math, 800 CR, 750 Writing).

I took it June of sophmore year, scored 2240. It was good practice, and I felt really confident.

Retook it Junior year, 2400. I felt like the first time really helped.

I took it June of my 2nd year of birth, 1590 (800Cr, 790Math)
Took it again when I five, (1600) and one more time when I was a freshman in HS (2400) and another time when I was a junior (2400). I felt like the first couple of times helped.

^ lol 10char

Ch33psh33p, do you think it will make a difference on your college apps when they see two test scores--a 2240 and a 2400--instead of just seeing the 2400?

I want them to see I tried hard to achieve, not just fluked into a 2400.

...any perfect score is not fluked into. After all, it takes back-up and prepration [through challenging courses, reading, etc] to achieve such a score, typically, no?
I would reccomend taking it 10th because of the new score reporting policy. You now don't have to state how many times you took the SAT/ACT [don't have to turn in all score transcripts unless requested by said school]. Half of the battle is just the practice.
Best of luck. x

I've taken the test five times in my life and haven't broken 1700. #6 in Jan.

2350 in 8th Grade? That's ridiculously impressive. Have you managed an 2400 since?

^ i agree. a 2350 in 8th grade indicates some prodigious intellectual abilities. personally, 2080 in 8th and 2370 in 11th. i think taking it as a sophomore can be a disadvantage because your abilities won't be fully developed, as can senior year(because there isn't much time to improve senior year, so lots of pressure to perform). junior year is optimal imo.

I never thought about taking it again.
I think I would be too afraid that my Math and Critical Reading scores would go down and not be able to focus.
My GC told me that I'm golden since many colleges don't care much about Writing- but she doesn't really know much, on the other hand.

Is your 2350 still on your record? My 8th grade score of 2080 has since been erased from my list of scores on the CB website

ya 2350 is incredibly impressive but i wouldnt say it shows genius ability becuase most of the skills for the SAT are honed...

I would say making MOP in 8th grade is more indicative of genius ability

Anyways for this question, why not...if you are ready to take it 10th grade go do it...I know plenty of people from my school that got 2200+ in 10th grade. They didnt have much of a life (no ECs out of basic clubs) but hey atleast they owned me on both the PSAT and SAT.

I talked about that with my GC in 9th grade.
She kept a copy of my scores from the College Board website.
Also my scores are still on College Board but I had to call them to get it to stay.
They felt it was unreasonable that I would have to retake a 1600/2350.

^Ya thats one advantage of getting really good score.

Now in High School you can spend your time that you would normally need studying for the SAT doing other activities and competitions.

For someone like me, I want to do research but if I cant get over 2250+ on the SAT i just took, i will have to cut back on that time to study again for the SAT which is going to waste so much time

LMAO I took it SOPHOMORE year and got the exact same score you did in 8th grade (1960)!

I'd say its a good idea. If you're going to take it twice anyway its better to spread it out a little bit (one soph. and one junior), and then you can take it a third time senior year if you want with no rush.
