I took the SAT my first time and got a 2220. My scores in each section were a 770 in math, 790 in writing, and 660 in reading, with a 10 on the essay. Should I take it a second time in hopes to bring my reading grade into the 700s? I fear that some colleges that ask for all scores will see that I took the test twice, which might make it seem I didn't do so well on it. The schools I plan to apply to include Columbia, NYU, and Cornell.

yes, but only if you work to improve your preparation for the three sections. look at the kinds of problems you didn’t do well on, and work on these.

Twice is not a problem–if you want to take it again do it without worry. Your combined score is so good, but the M and CR are the most important. I’m not sure how each school looks at the writing score.I don’t usually encourage ppl to take again for no reason but you are borderline case in favor. Esp because of the 2 more selectives you mention.

Reading mid 50% (from collegedata)
Columbia 690 - 780
Cornell 630 - 730
NYU 620-710
