This is a sensitive topic, so please be warned.

Would talking about a time when I stood up against a family member hitting a dog in my college essay be a horrible, horrible idea to write about? It was a long time ago, and I think I could write a really powerful essay about it, but I know that there's also a huge chance of backlash.

Please don't bother replying if you plan to be rude or derisive. I would appreciate unbiased and informed opinions.

I don’t think so, cause it was a family member who hit the dog, not you, and you stood up against it, so no, I don’t think it’s a bad idea at all.

I think it’s a bad idea since it WAS a family member. But even if it didn’t,the topic focuses too much on you stopping another’s bad behavior (akin to telling people not to say racial slurs as an example) rather than something more about you and what you’ve done or experienced.

I don’t think you should write about something that happened a long time in the past. But I don’t understand what the ‘huge chance of backlash’ is.
