I went to the website to see if I can claim a few credits.

The website suggested talking to my advisor before claiming the credit because of several factors like B-On-Loan and whatnot.

When can I do this?
and where?

Also, by what date should I claim my credit to get rid of a class?

thanks.

It is mandatory for you to meet with an adviser before registering for classes. During orientation, you’re provided with a meeting time to discuss your schedule. When I went last summer, the adviser asked me if I wanted to claim any credits and showed me how to claim them. If they are AP or dual credit courses, then make sure to have your official scores or transcripts sent to the admissions office. I don’t think there is a deadline you have to claim your credits by (I claimed mine in late August/early September of my freshman year). It’s a good idea to talk about it with your adviser, though, before claiming them. If they are important towards your major, such as calculus for math/engineering or biology for bio/pre-med, it may be a good idea to retake them again since there is a huge difference between the AP and UT courses, and it can hurt you in the long run if you are not properly prepared for the next step. But if you want to claim credit for courses that count towards the core curriculum and have no effect on your major, then, by all means, claim those and get them out of the way.

Hope that helps :)

Thank you so much!

I have another short question?
Once i figure out what courses i want to take, can i come back and choose what professor i want?

Definitely. You discuss which courses you want to take with your adviser, but then scheduling is all up to you. You have about a day after discussing your courses before you can actually register for classes. The advisers will show you how to access the course schedule, which has everything about classes including time, location, and professor. Check different professor rating websites to read about other students’ experiences were with the professors, and see if they are right for you. I definitely recommend [Professor ratings, average GPA, class schedule & degree tools | MyEdu](http://www.myedu.com). This site can create a sample schedule for you, provides professor information including past GPAs, and can even keep track of the courses you need towards your degree. Keep in mind that since you are a freshman, you are the last to register, so classes will fill up quickly. Make different combinations of your schedule, just in case one course fills up you have a backup ready. :)
