Talking to teacher about a grade

Ugh, so here’s the deal. My French teacher weighs discussion points as 25-30% of our grade… Each grading period (3 per semester) he inputs them. First grading period I got full points, but the second I fell asleep too much in his class and I only got half points, bringing my 93 down to an 87.

I’ve participated a lot lately and improved drastically and theoretically I could expect to get a 100 this grading period on discussion. BUT last semester, he never inputted points for discussion on the third grading period (which doesn’t make sense like why would you collect then o_o)… So I’m going to talk to him before the semester ends about this. How should I talk to him about this? I’ve never had to do this before… Thanks, any advice would be greatly appreciated

You approach him politely when he’s not overwhelmed… so NOT on your way out of his class. That’s when you ask him if you can stop by after school with a question, and where he’ll be.

When you see him after school, you start with “Mr. Smith, I have a question about my grade. I was looking at the numbers, and I’m not sure you included my participation grade last semester. Could you take a look at it when you get the chance?”

Ask for any extra credit assignments. If he’s not really the type to give extra credit assignments, then try having one of your parents give him a polite call and talk with him.

Can I please disagree, respectively, with the last post??

You’re in high school. “Extra credit” should be a distant memory, abandoned around the same time you stopped gluing macaroni to plates and calling it art.

Likewise, mommy and daddy don’t call to ask a question. You’re in high school. You can ask a polite question without having your parents do it for you.
