The colleges will go by what your school puts on the transcript–but then they will modify that to take out the PE courses, the health courses, and will add in points for the honors, APs, and IB courses.

To help in this regard, the application asks you to separate this stuff out–then they have someone verify it to make sure you put it all down correctly.

Your low-income status will help you slightly if you are from an area where there are a lot of low-income people. If you happen to be low-income, but from a high-income area, it probably won’t affect the application at all.

And if you have to focus on 2 out of 3 classes to guarantee 2 As–and then accept 1 B in the third, do so. This happens–and it would be much better to get at least 2 As, than to take the chance that you could have the highest B pluses in all three (that would be a disaster).

Critical Reading 640 (from a 680)
Math 750 (from 650)
Writing 560 (from 590)
total 1950 (from 1920)

I am really upset with this score! even though my math improved by 100 points, my CR and Writing combined for a loss of 70. I didnt expect such a big drop in those 2 categories! I took the SAT the first time in my soph year, so naturally my english skills should have improved or at least stayed the same…
Argh.

Plus i got 3 more B’s to put onto that stupid transcript haha.
should i retake the SAT again in oct/nov??
(im planning on retaking Math 2 as well)

That 2100 SAT estimate you gave back in May is looking better after this last test result–congratulations.

As I said back then, if you can get the test score up without dropping the grades too much, then you would be a match for UCLA and at UC San Diego and at USC. I’ll stick with that prediction.

As far as UC Berkeley, I think it still depends upon your ELC status. If you get that, then I think you’ll get in for sure, otherwise you’re borderline and I’m guessing you could possibly get in, but then I consider it very slightly more likely that you will barely miss out. (Any chance of playing Water Polo in college?–that would help your chances.)
Also, I don’t know if you did any of the other stuff I mentioned (debate, academic or scientific competitions).

Good luck to you and let us all know your results in late March or early April.

=] thanks so much calcruzer for responding YOU DA MAN
firstly i wanna point out that this hella cracked me up:
“I consider it very slightly more likely”
mayb its just cuz i have a weird sense of humor.

hahaha!
okay. I am feeling very confidant regarding college at this moment and calcruzer you just wrapped it all up for me :).
I love water polo, but i doubt if i am anywhere close to the college level of the sport. (Actually, i do not know how applying as an athlete or whatever involves, but i expect that it probably isnt in my exact interests to do so)
No i did not do any debate or competitions, but that’s okay.

I fell in love with the Cal campus when i visited there. I have yet to visit any of the other UC’s, but it sure matches up with the Stanford campus! (which i also visited with a program over summer)

I can honestly say that I feel so much more relaxed than i was a week ago, no more testing, no more super worrying over GPA, just Apps and im essentially done.

Thanks again to your advice and ill speak to you soon around that march/april time!

the wonders of the bump haha jk. ive been periodically checking this since the time i originally posted it so yeah.
i honestly was hoping for a 2100 but i also told myself id be happy to get past 2050, and when i saw my score to be 2060 i was like shrug “good job”. haha
