Hey guys, I live here. We have 2 Targets, 3 Walmarts, Kohls, Bed Bath and Beyond, Pier One, World Market, Department stores like Dillards/Macys/JCPennys/Sears, etc. We are used to move in weekends, so yes it is crazy busy, but the energy is so fun that it makes it tolerable for sure.
Good point @rosegeo Most students only use bedding first year BUT, if you get a full comforter vs. twin, you can reuse! Fulls fit the twin XL beds pretty well with some hang over so that it covers underneath! Also, if you have girls in sororities and they move into the house for sophomore year, they too will have twin beds! Basically don’t spend an arm and a leg, but don’t feel bad about the expense! It’ll be worth it for them to love their room!!!
Any other questions you guys have about the area, please ask. I’ve lived here since I went to school in 1989! I have one D there (graduates in Dec) and my son starts in the Fall! I have tons of useless, I mean useful info!!! = )
@labegg One pass per student. If her BFF comes up, she can either borrow a sports pass from someone and convert to guest pass or just buy a guest ticket (I believe that’s still possible).
I called about freshmen purchasing the sports pass, and here’s the information I received:
When you login May 30th to buy the sports pass (through the Howdy portal) you need to use the student UIN and not the email address to create an account on the 12th man foundation website. If you use the email, you will get an error.
The sports pass will be charged to the Bursar account.
The Thursday before a football game, freshmen will go to the ticket windows on the north side of Kyle Field, entries 5 & 6 (which face the MSC), with their student ID and sports pass to do their ticket pull for that weekend’s game.
Ticket pull begins at 7AM, but some students line up earlier if it’s a big game.
To get a ticket for a friend who is not a TAMU student, you will request a guest ticket at the time you pull your ticket and be ready to pay face value for it at that time. You can only buy 1 guest ticket per game. The friend will be in the student section with you.
If you have classes on Thursday morning and cannot go to the ticket pull, you can send your sports pass only (not your ID - other students are not allowed to be in possession of somebody else’s ID) with another TAMU student. That student can present your sports pass and pull a ticket for you.
If you have more than 1 guest who would like to attend and be with you in the student section, you can borrow sports passes from friends not attending the game. You present their sports passes at the ticket window and pay 1/2 of the face value of the ticket. This is called a “Guest Label Conversion.”
Yes & no… your group designation decides your day you pull tickets – if you are majority freshman group then it is Thursday but if you are in groups where majority is sophomores it will be Wed, juniors Tues, seniors Mon. If you want to sit together, you have to pull together. Max. group is 10 or you get the third deck for sure with a larger group. Many clubs & organizations go to games together.
Guest passes are not offered for every game & in particular rare for popular games like when we play Alabama. One of the more popular football seasons I don’t recall a game with guest passes offered. Your best bet is to find a sports pass to use for a guest. They do announce when guest passes are available - but if you are flying in chances are you want a ticket for sure. Some people advertise their passes early - if they know that they will not be going to a certain game.
To do that: you can go on websites like the FB page for sportspasses & people both advertise to get a pass & if they have a pass— you can of course just ask friends as well… big groups/organizations/dorms often have people with an unused sports pass. In recent years there have been sales of the passes - rules are that you can ask no more than half face value for that game for the pass. Every game has a different face value. It is hard to catch violators of that rule, but that is the official position of the university. Your student will meet the person with the pass & then use it to get the extra ticket on pull day. After pull day, you meet up with the pass owner & give it back. All pass owners are students, so everyone knows how it works. Do NOT use craigslist – fake sportspasses have been a problem there.
As a norm most groups only have a few people in line for tickets holding all the sportpasses. They have your name & class year on them - that is how they know how many of each class is in a group. The sportspass keeps the status if you borrow one ( so if you borrow a senior’s as a freshman, you are considered a senior). You keep the same sportspass until you graduate - they just get activated/deactivated based on your purchases each school year. They have been trying to not have the camp out for football games - it is much more rare now since the tickets are more random rather than first rows go to the first in line - there is a pool of tickets for each day instead. 10th in line for example may get better seats than 1st in line. That change happened a few years ago.
Students can sit outside the student section with family/friends - but they do need to buy a ticket to do that. Sportspasses are only valid for the student section. You present your student ID with a student ticket for admission to the student section gate of the stadium (you can’t get to the other sections from the student section). If your student opts to sit with you in ‘regular’ seats they need a regular ticket & go through the appropriate gate for that ticket section.
@AGmomx2 Do you have any knowledge of the process of buying the road game tickets? Also, are they cheaper than buying tickets on like StubHub or something similar? I want to go to the Arkansas game and am curious as to how that will work out. On a different note does anyone know when ticket pulls will be for the Northwestern State game, cause it’s apparently a good idea to have that game on a Thursday.
Yes road game student tickets go on sale next week- check the 12th man foundation site for details here’s the link https://students.12thmanfoundation.com/students/login.aspx. You pre-buy and then pick them up at a later date. They often sell out.
Student tickets are in the student section of the away games - other tickets for sale will be all over the stadium. Sometimes they are cheaper, sometimes not …price-wise. Prices are set pre-season so it depends on how teams are doing as to the resale market.
They adjust ticket pulls if needed for various sports & games. Here’s the football schedule https://12thman.com/schedule.aspx?schedule=291 You can ask the 12th man foundation about the Northwestern game – they can tell you the pull dates. When you call you get to listen to hullabaloo normally while you’re on hold
We tried to register so we would be ready to purchase but got the following error message:
“We do not have an email address on your account in order to activate it. Please contact the 12th Man Foundation at tickets@12thmanfoundation.com.”
So we emailed the 12th Man Foundation and they replied:
“You are receiving that error because registration for sports passes won’t open for incoming freshmen until May 30. Registration is currently only open for current students who had sports passes last year. Let me know if you have any other questions.”
Thanks for the follow up ^^ sorry I’m only on here while the paint is drying – lol, no kidding… some questions I just happen to know how to find answers quickly after 6 years of being an Aggie Mom
Any word on housing selection dates yet? DD is getting antsy to dorm shop , but her choices all have different bed sizes, so we are waiting, not so patiently. We are planners and are ready to have all the ducks in a row!
@aggiemomhelp…White Creek is full beds I believe? (DD is hoping for White Creek or the ever impossible to get Hullabaloo) The Res Life site has all the breakdowns.
@labegg you’re the best… thank you! To answer your original question… they will not pick rooms til mid to late May if it’s anything like last year. And white creek doesn’t fill up too quickly. Also, does your daughter realize how far WC is from main campus? It’s not a walk… definitely need bus or bike to get places. It’s a totally different feel then the rest of the dorms.
@labegg, D and I are driving to Houston to see Hamilton. I have never seen TAMU (I know right and I am a multiple generation Texan) I just want to drive by on our way. Any suggestions?
@bingewatcher where are you driving in from? I live in Aggieland. What are you guys wanting to do? Tour campus, see the city (bigger than you think), go to Century Square for good food, drive the hullabaloo drive near Bush Library, check out dorms or apartments???
