Texas A&M requires that you declare your major when you apply. Then, you cannot change that major for at least a semester, but usually longer, after you are in. This is August, an entire year before I start. I called them and asked what should I do when I am interested in double majoring. They said I still need to put down a primary major. But then they told me that I can request a double major once there, but, that I will likely be denied. Also, whatever I put down now I will be held to, and will not be able to change it for at least a semester after starting. So that means, even if I know by January of this year that I don't want that major, I am still committed to it.

My major interests include basically language study and math, maybe physics or engineering. They do not have a linguistics major there, so I would major in math and study languages also, or I would major in a language and take additional language courses, etc. IF I want to do the Liberal Arts Honors program, I need to declare a major in liberal arts. I really like that program. So I figured it would make the most sense to pick the language major. However, it bothers me that I will not be allowed to switch majors easily, or double major, or even work toward that other major while I decide.

What should I do? Still put down the Liberal Arts major so I can go in to the honors program (called Cornerstone) which is about the only thing I am sure of? Or, put down math, knowing I might not continue in it and miss out on the Cornerstone program?

Is A&M just a really bad choice for someone who is unsure of major?
