TAMU transfer chances for engineering spring 2014

I'm currently at lone star college montgomery and would like to transfer into mechanical engineering at Texas A&M. I graduated in 2012 and currently I have a 3.58 gpa for 48 hours (60 after this semester).

ENGL 1301 A
ENGL 1302 B

HIST 1301 A
HIST 1302 A

GOVT 2301 B
GOVT 2302 B

ARTS 1304 B
ANTH 2351 A
KINE 1151 A
DFTG 1309 Auto cad (transfers as ENGR 111) A
ENGR 1201 Intro the ENGR (but it doesnt transfer) A
ENGR 2301 in the fall ( this should transfer as MEEN 221 (statics) but I need to check with them to make sure)
COSC 1425 "C" programming (should transfer was ENGR 112 at tamu) I'm taking it online over the summer and it should be an easy A)

MATH 1314 Algebra A
MATH 1316 Trig A
MATH 2412 Pre-calc B
MATH 2413 Calc 1 A
MATH 2414 Calc 2 (Either a B or a possible A)
MATH 2415 Calc 3 in the fall
MATH 2320 Diff Equations might take it in the fall if I have time just to get a better understanding of it

PHYS 2425 Mechanics and heat (Probably a B might a slim chance for an A)
PHYS 2426 Light and magnetism in the fall (Probably a B realistically due to a hard professor)

CHEM 1411 Gen Chem 1 B
CHEM 1412 Gen Chem 2 C (I just found out this morning and I had a 78 in the class)

I started some of these courses in my junior year of HS and I recently just turned 20. I was president at our 4-H club for the last 2 years of HS, I'm an eagle scout, and started working when I was 16 (part time during school and full time during the breaks) and worked at the same place for 3 years up until this semester when I decided to quite to focus on school.

I have a full time internship at Schlumberger in manufacturing that I started last summer. I went back over winter break and will be going back again next week.

I applied for the fall this year for 1st choice mechanical and 2nd petroleum with a 3.58 overall gpa but I was denied back in march due to the fact that PHYS 2426 and ENGR 112 would not be completed by June first. Last semester I took PHYS 2425 and MATH 2414 (calc 2) but ended up pulling out and taking a "W" on both. I know that does not look good either. I dropped calc due to the professor I couldn't understand and I dropped physics on the last day possible because I would have gotten a C in the class.

I'm scared this C in chem 2 is going to kill me! I had a high A for labs but the exams and the final killed me (only 4 people got an A in the class) According the the CBK I cannot retake any of those classes if I have a B or a C in any of them. With a B in calc 2 and physics 2 my CBK gpa would be a 3.26 which is horrible (IMO). If I can pull of an A in calc 2 or physics 2 it would bring it up to a 3.4 or a 3.56 with a A in both or also in just physics 1. I'm planning on talking to an adviser at tamu to see what I could do to help my chances. My normal gpa would still be around a 3.5 but I know the CBK gpa is more important.

Would I be better off going to UH or LSU then try to transfer from there into tamu? Or possibly go for an easier major to get into tamu then transfer into engineering after a semester?

I have a friend that just got denied for mechanical for the fall who had a 3.93 with all the required classes completed by this semester. Only thing I can think of is that he has never had a job?

I know mechanical and petroleum are so competitive right now with the limited amount of spots but I'm hoping in the spring it might be a little easier? I'm sorry for making this so long but any advise would be great or also posting your stats for engineering as a transfer. Thanks!

I just transferred from lsc montgomery to a&m this semester for aerospace engineering
I originally applied for mechanical but got into my second major instead.
I have 3.9 in 55 hours including
A in cal1-3 both physics and both chem and differential equations
My only b was in a history
And I still got denied by mechanical
My friend also applied for mech eng but with a 4.0 he hadn’t finished cal 3 and got put on spring review and when he made a b in it he got denied
Mechanical is highly competitive and I would most def have a backup

@ilovemath987 and in reference to take cal 3 and diff eq simultaneously,
I took both last fall at the same time with groah and he is an amazing teacher, it was an easy a in both classes

And if you have a job or not does very little to your application, I would recommend an awesome essay and letters of recommendation, what you did in highschool will not even be looked at

So I figured I would finally update this thread in case anyone is in a similar situation. I appreciate everyone’s replies!

I re-took CHEM 1412 over the summer and made an A. I also took C++ programming 1420 online and made an A. This brought my gpa back up to a 3.56 overall.

I applied in late august for civil engineering first choice and industrial for second because I didn’t think my grades would get me into mechanical. Thankfully I was accepted into civil on November 11th for the spring! I had 2 letters of recommendation and a strong essay along will all of the required classes completed.

This semester I took:

MATH 2415 (it will either be an A or a B)
MATH 2320 (should be an A)
PHYS 2426 (I messed up an exam and with no curves or dropped grades I will end up with a C)
ENGR 2301 (Statics, this will be an A)

Since my gpa does not carry over, I technically just need C’s to transfer the classes but I’m still trying to finish strong in these classes.

I would still like to transfer into mechanical for next fall, if possible. I’m thinking about taking CVEN 302 (computing), CVEN 306 (Materials science), CVEN 305 (mechanics of materials), CVEN 311 (fluids), and possibly MEEN 315 (thermo). I’m excited about next year!
