Tasared student at WUSTL

A student was tasered by a police officer while resisting arrest during a concert at the Gargoyle last night.

The 22-year-old male student appeared intoxicated and had exposed himself, according to a Washington University Police Department (WUPD) news advisory.

The student was disruptive at the concert, prompting B&D security personnel to escort him outside and tell him to leave at about 10:45 p.m. He then shoved a security guard and pulled down his pants. At this point B&D contacted WUPD for assistance.

When WUPD arrived they repeatedly told the man to pull up his pants or face arrest. The student refused and an officer attempted to handcuff him. When the student struggled to resist being handcuffed, the officer pulled out his Taser and threatened to use it if the student did not comply. The man continued to resist and was tasered.

WUPD took the student into custody and had him examined at a hospital before booking him in the St. Louis County Jail. Hospital examinations are standard protocol following Taser usages.

Why would anyone take an opportunity for a college education and act like a damned fool is beyond me. I'm sorry he got tasered. There are plenty of kids who would take that same opportunity and make other choices at the beginning of their evening off that wouldn't result in public drunkeness plus everything else that followed. I'm sure it hurt. A lot. Ouch. He made a series of bad choices.

stupid is as stupid does.. run forrest run....

The pain is much briefer than a good beatdown with a baton. He got off easy IMHO.

I agree, paying3tuitions. WUSTL is like an ivy of the midwest, and this idiot is just sitting there ruining his life.

Hmmm 22? One would hope he had outgrown that type of behavior by now.

for those who think tasering is no big deal, you are the ones that need to grow up

this is a DEATH

who hear wants 50000 volts for being "upitty"

PS the cops here all lied about what happened, and voila, a tape.....big time investigations, as it should be

how sad indeed that many think tasering is just like a slap on the wrist

"how sad indeed that many think tasering is just like a slap on the wrist"

No one says it's a slap on the wrist. I would wait until toxicology is done. While confused as he may have throw stuff around and picking things to "defend " himself isn't really normal behavor... remember that's when nobody was hassling him. There's a little bit of fear when dealing with people who have already posed a threat...

I don't think that the common reaction at an airport to having to wait..
there's something more to this..

Yes, it's unfortunate he died.
