^^ That is a creative idea. And after all, TASP wants people with creativity so I don't see why not. Oh, which song :)?

Mmm...I don't know yet!! I haven't gotten that far. So far, I'm considering songs by Straylight Run or The Arcade Fire. It'll be a stretch though to pull off a critcal analysis...

ohhhhhh i love the arcade fire!!!!!!!

i like the tension and the terror by straylight run, too.

i think it could work, but only if you do it very well. showing insight while analyzing a song > a crappy analysis of a book.

Do Neighborhood #3 (Power Out). You know you want to.

Hmmmm...so far considering:

Neighborhood #3 (Power Out) -- The Arcade Fire =]
Let Go -- Frou Frou
Perfect Ending -- Straylight Run
Things You Call Fate -- Sondre Lerche
Red Right Ankle -- The Decemberists <3

if you don't absolutely hate hip-hop, check out sage francis. he's a former slam poet, so his lyrics are pretty lyrical, though they're also riddled with curse words. but they're pretty insightful at the same time. an example (from 'makeshift patriot') - http://www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/Makeshift-Patroit-lyrics-Sage-Francis/B3F96BD2D4C3B41848256E63000B625E

I love Frou Frou :D

Btw, sidjenks, I met you at NPEC in DC.. my initials are MZ. Sorry for not responding to your previous message!

haha i figured that out shortly after sending you that message.

That's a really novel idea billy..and it would work best if one had a passion for music, which apparently you do. So yeah, I'd definitely go for it.

And now you've given me some artists to look up. I love discovering new music. :)

Oh and Frou Frou is pretty cool.

And Comisar, I'm not too surprised. My school is in a pretty obscure suburb about an hour's drive away from San Jose. Have you heard of Monte (not Monta) Vista in Danville? I'm pretty close by there.

haha, nope.

Anyone listen to Guster? Many of their songs are quite metaphorical, even enigmatic, in nature. It'd make for an intriguing analysis.

Guster is one of my favorite bands. :) They're simply amazing. I wish I had the opportunity to see them while they were here in the Bay Area.

Ah, I'm listening to "Ruby Falls" right now.

Lol I have a feeling a lot of people are going to be doing song analyses now. XD

And comisar, how about Dublin/Pleasanton? That's a BART station so maybe you've heard of those two cities at least? Haha.

I LOVE GUSTER! :)

I've heard of those cities, but not the school... I'm totally familiar with all the Caltrain stations; less so with the BART.

So how is everyone coming along on the essays? I'd like to be reassured (or panicked, depending) on my progress...

haha haven't started yet. I know what I'm writing about...I just haven't gotten around to actually starting the process.

I'm awful awful awful at writing. Grammar and I are BFF...but that's about all I have going for me. But so far, I have 3 essays (including the list of books...laaame) close enough to done. Or at least drafted.

I haven't written anything for the crit analysis or my preferences. I'm maybe half-way through the general conflict (#2).

Basically: I'm no where near finished...

Comisar:: I'm from Ohio, but I know 2 sisters at Lynbrook! One's a junior one's a sophomore I think!! They're Asian, surprise...

Yea, that's vaguely where I am, as well.

How strict/lenient is the 2-page limit, I wonder? or is it more of a guideline? Because technically you could use small font, margins, etc., and still fit an otherwise long essay into 2 pages.

lol i was like one of the first people here to get started on my essays, wrote 1, and the list of books, and now 2 months later thats still the limit of my accomplishments....these are due in 15 days or something? wow...

yeah, but i would just honor the telluride readers' wishes and keep it under two pages with reasonable margins and fonts. i think size 11 is fine for times new roman and size 10 can work for some of the extra large fonts, but obviously, don't make the text size 8 and have the readers squint at your essays.

wait they're not due in 15 days. ??? what. they're due on the 22nd, aren't they? and the 26th if you submit it online.

so far i have one more or less done, with an idea for another one, and my booklist done.

i have no clue what i'm writing for the issue one or the analysis one. i'm leaning towards a poem.

anyone want to do what they did last year and post up a description of our essays when we're actually semi-done with them?

Billy__Liar, want to PM me the names of the people you know at Lynbrook? Maybe I know them haha

I've done three of the essays... the personal conflict one, the topic of interest, and I just finished my crit analysis. I think I'm doing pretty well, considering I didn't even know about TASP until I got an application in the mail a little over a week ago :)
