Man, I was up early, and what am I doing?? Working on my essays. Lame.

Which essay does everyone think is hardest??

Man, I was up early, and what am I doing?? Working on my essays. Lame.

Which essay does everyone think is hardest??

Do the preferences of our seminars actually matter for admissions? Or are they only considered after admissions?

I think the personal conflict one is going to be my hardest simply because my school does not do much writing in terms of personal narratives. For the easiest, I would have to say the critical analysis, and again, it reflects from the type of work I do in school.

I'm in the same boat as kyzan. School since 3rd grade has been obsessed with 5 paragraph essays, unfortunately at the cost of creative writing. So the personal conflict might be my toughest. The easier ones might be the literary analysis and the rankings.

Haha I know what you mean. I'm about to write a 7 or 8-paragraph critical analysis. And it's freaking me outtt!

Dun dun dunnn...

But that's weird, I'm most worried about the critical analysis. Or the future educational plans...because how do you make that interesting??

Billy since your a...Liar
Write about how since you were five your parents have pushed you towards harvard by buying you harvard sheets and sweathshirts and all sorts of schwag and thats not what you really want to do, and you want to become some hippy and go to trade school then join the peace core. That would be slightly interesting.

Personally I think the book list was the easiest essay :-p

Kyzan: In my program selection essay; I personally included alot of my educational philosophy and my personal goals I would like to acheive from the programs.

So If you have a list that just says 1)St Louis, I have never taken a train in a big city before 2)Cornell I, I like to watch movies and this is the closest Im ever gonna get to an Ivy League, haha JP.

^^^Thats sort of dry.

Hahahaha. First of all, one of my favityfavefave songs is "Billy Liar" by the Decemberists...so that's that.

But the thing is;; my first paragraph of that essay (at least for now...) has to do with my MIT sweatshirt (I don't want to go to MIT...I've just had it for forever) and how people are disappointed when I don't tell a story of how I woke up one morning when I was 2, declaring I wanted to go to MIT.

I would have to say I'm most intimidated by the critical analysis merely because I've never done an actual critical analysis before. And I still don't know what text I want to analyze...

I also have a feeling that I'll get lost in my issue essay about halfway through. But then again those are the two essays I haven't started on yet. Heh.

The creative writing stuff is the easiest (and most time-consuming, because I'm so critical of my creative writing) for me since I'm a writer at heart.

I procrastinate on the huge load of hw and studying I have to do over winter break by working on TASP applications. LOL. I have finals the week after I get back from winter break. :(

I was rather blunt about the seminar I did not want to attend. Copy + paste from my 2006 essay:
[quote]
Finally, I would not like to attend the Medieval Romance seminar because although I am an avid reader, I am not passionate about medieval literature. Furthermore, this seminar seems to focus on Western culture, whereas I would like to study a global topic.

im scared i am too political. my liberal stance is evident in my conflict, personal, and even my lit analysis essay.

Jason atleast you are able to assert yourself. If you have a solid backing to your liberal stance that is really powerful, shows your head isn't underwater. Also the fact that you share the same stance between multiple essays is good too, it shows you aren't just a pushover and that you took a very subjective view on all of the topics at hand and that, hey your Jason, not wikipedia.com
In other words don't sweat it and hey you also have the bulk of your essays done.

Billy, I didn't mean to hit so deep with the sweatshirt comment. Very funny though, my mom went to MIT and I use to go to class with her everyday and ride my trike around the lobby of sloan. People always thought I was gonna go to MIT because of that, but **** science isn't really my fortay.

how much does it cost? Can internationals apply? if I havn't taken ACT/SAT yet.

DinaZhang -

1)It's free if you are accepted (only ~10% acceptance rate)
2)Yes.
3)It's ok if you haven't taken the ACT/SAT yet. Standardized test scores are not part of the application.

For me, the critical analysis was the hardest... I thought it should be like deeper than the crap I write for lit class, but I didn't know how to do that. The easiest was probably my future educational objectives.

YES! I just finished my conflict essay, and thus all six of them. That's one New Year's resolution fulfilled! Now let's hope that the good folks in Ithaca like them all…

For the book list, how many books should we list?

uh... however many you read in the past year? i didn't include all of the books i read because 1.) i forgot probably a good chunk of them and 2.) i left out some that were mere filler reading.

my status:

conflict essay: 75% done
future educational goals: 60% done
rankings: 0% done
critical analysis: 0% done (or 50%, if i were to use this one i wrote last year)
issue: 0% done

and i'm done with my booklist. so i'm obviously not as diligent as you guys. but that's a given, since i procrastinate like crazy.

anyone want to start a list of who's applying/seminar rankings? =)

i'm new on these forums and thus have not had a chance to read through the previous pages. i've finished two of my essays. lol. i still have a long ways to go. but i was wondering, for those of you who went to TASP this past summer, or even got asked to an interview, could you do me a huge favor and email me your essays? i just want to gauge what they're looking for and that would help a lot. my email is wendymeister@gmail.com. thank you so much

Crimson, you are one lucky, lucky person :) I still have to write like...5 of my essays...da mn
