For the essay about our seminar preferences...Are we allowed to say outright that we aren't interested AT ALL in a specific TASP seminar?

Yes, you are.

You should probably provide a legitimate reason, as well.

"Well basically I'd be spending the four extra days getting some last minute feedback from teachers and peers. Or at least that's what I see myself doing. I'd have enough time to make edits, but obviously I wouldn't have time to say, write another essay."

I definitely wrote three of my essays within the last two days. I work well under pressure, heh.

Haha well I'm usually only comfortable if I have ample time to finish all of my tasks. I'm such a slow worker. But yeah, I've learned not to rely on weekdays for finishing up work. An extra 4 weekdays to work on something outside of school and ECs is really not all that much. It would be 2 AM on a weeknight and I'll be like "Wow, yeah...TASP essays....I'll do it tomorrow. Oh wait. It's DUE tomorrow." ^^;;

has someone already made a list of who's applying (not to a specific seminar, but applying in general)? or is it too early?

I don't believe so. Want to compile it for us sidjenks? :)

"You should probably provide a legitimate reason, as well."

Like what? I don't think documentaries are very interesting, and I'm not into politics, so I don't want to attend the International Politics on Film seminar?

if my parents have paid a 250 dollar deposit for one program and are going to pay the full price once im accepted (and i doubt ill be rejected, it's not really a tough admissions program) should i even apply to tasp? i was sorta debating it but this program is like "first come first serve" so i had to apply asap. also, is it too late to start working on apps?

Well, if you've already paid $250 then it would be seem that you've already made a commitment to a different program, so TASP might not be for you. However, if you would still like to apply, there is definitely still some time left over, especially if you work well under pressure. If you're applying online though, transcripts and teacher recommendations must be postmarked by Jan. 15th.

Concerning the "legitimate reason" thing, I'm providing a little background information of what I know about the seminar I am not interested in and then stating plainly that I would not like to go to that seminar.

Is a critical analysis still a critical analysis if it requires a little bit of research?

And by "a little bit," I mean just a couple facts as to the time period, name etymology, and historical references??

Billy: It says you are allowed to do some research so it sounds like your in the ballpark in that regard. I think they just dont want you to plagiarize or use someone elses ideas as a foundation for your viewpoints. (get ready for the cheeziness) The whole point of the essays is for them to learn more about you, its true.

Also don't feel discouarge to include a little research, it can ultimately strengthen your argument.

frogttenhawk:
When you said east bay at first I was thinking more south, but I definetly know where Cal High is now, I use to go up there alot last year for lacrosse. (Mt. Diablo, Pleasnton ect.) Nice. I bet you our school badminton team would kick your guys ***. <--Like thats something to be proud of

I was hoping to have it all done by the end of xmas break....

lol, same here. Didn't get one essay done yet...

Personally, I would not recommend saying you don't want to attend a seminar. Putting it 5th on your choice list should be good enough. I know from talking to people who have been on the TASP admissions committee that they would much rather see a kid who's open-minded than one who refuses to go to a certain seminar.

Don't worry, you're very unlikely to be placed in your last choice seminar. And even if you are, you'll have a great summer, believe me.

Giantredlobster- It's good to know that someone on here has an idea of where I'm from. Haha. I have no doubt in my mind whatsoever that your badminton team 0wns. Cal High football is pretty intense though. :)

So is someone going to compile that list of people applying to TASP this year? Lol.

vegangirl, thanks for the tip. I'll keep it in mind in my editing process.

forgottenhawk: I know where you live...and I might hunt you down, you stink for already being in the editing stage. + I was waiting for you to be some hXc badminton player and get all defensive at my comment, "I will shuttlecock your ass." I consider myself lucky.

LMAO ironically I'm incredibly bad at all net sports so I am most definitely not a hXc badminton player...lol. I do track (sprints, long jump, triple jump) for my school and play a crapload of other sports recreationally. I'll play badminton or tennis every once in awhile for the sake of looking like an idiot. It's quite fun, actually.

I'm only in the editing stages for a few of my essays, so I'm not THAT far ahead in the application process, but it's a start. I'm juggling several essays all of which are at different levels of completion.

Fhawk: Juggling sounds to be a very appropriate adjective.

My problem is, and im sure the same goes for many, I spend more time on this dang board than I have writing essays. Michael Jackson would call it Human Nature, I say we just need more stuff to do :-P. Add a few EC and start a couple of clubs, you know the gist. because i'm sure we aren't already busy as it is.

haha.... i seriously spend a good hour too many a day on these dang boards.

I swore that i would finish #3 tonight.. lol

As of right now, I have a draft with a huge hole in it.... and every single other essay to write.

by the way, anyone know how to reliably type an em dash? dot dot dot is finally getting on my nerves
