Hehe...I'm another one of those science/humanities people. I guess you can say I'm published in both fields :) Yet, my interests are narrower than you might think. In science, I only like math and physics, and in humanities, I prefer literature, history, and mainly philosophy. Cheers

On a sidenote, TASP usually accepts only one student per school right? Are there any regional/ethnic quotas?

Goldstars, before being born, when we both got in line to receive our life passions, you totally took my share of mathlove. XD

Ummmm. Not necessarily. This past summer, there were a few people from the same SCHOOL. PH, GS, LS... Wait, is LS in PH/GS's school? Yeah, if not, she's in the same state or a nearby school, whatever.

I don't think there are. They try to make it diverse, but there is no true "quota".

twitch Bwahaha. It's seven o' clock here... I'm... halfway done with my Brown essay? Who knows. I'm getting to the good part now, so it's waaaaaaaay easier to write.

WHY DO I KEEP UPDATING YOU PEOPLE ON THIS?! lmao. I have no idea.

hi everyone, I've been lurking and not posting, so I'll pay my dues and post a list of people who are applying. I only went back to like page 20 so I might have missed some earlier ones.

Maybe (people who either said they weren't sure if they were applying, or posted random things so I couldn't tell if they were applicants or not)

What are you guys writing about seminars you ranked lower? I'm not sure what I can say except that they just flat out don't sound quite as interesting as the ones above it...haha.

oy.... i didnt know that so many science/humanities people existed. Guess i have company.

I'm all for applied math/economics/law/poli-sci/finance/architecture/photography but physics and chem arent too shabby either. Anything BUT history..haha

I'm feeling soo intimidated... thanks kyzan and goldstars.. my ECs soo do not stack up.

Shockwaveride:: Don't feel bad. My most impressive EC would be me being principal in All-State Orchestra, which, as great as I think it is, probably doesn't carry too much weight for TASP.

last year the CCers were well represented in TASP (or at least it seemed so reading the old thread). i remember a good chunk of the applicants on the CC boards were accepted.

hopefully a good number of us will get accepted this year as well! that'll be so weird though, if we actually meet each other at TASP.

"hey, are somethingsomethingusername? OMG IM somethingsomethingotherusername!"

Hi, I'm applying to TASP as well. I've got two questions:

Are there any specific guidelines for the literary analysis?
What type of "issue" are they looking for? I'm not really sure if I should do something abstract (moral/ethical/philosophical) or something concrete (an actual political or scientific issue)?

How are people doing on their essays? I've only just finished my first one but I have my book-list and my seminar rankings pretty much done. Just have to put them on paper. ;)

Hey assorted, thanks for putting up that list XD It was very nice of you.

Shockwaveride, no need to get intimidated lol. The the beauty of TASP is that they want people with intellectual curiosity. Plus, I doubt ECs matter that much at all; as they say...essays are your lifeline, so write them well.
For those who are applying online, how much did you guys type for the awards/honors section? I copied and pasted mine on word and its almost half a page long. Maybe I should tune it down?

Billy Liar, being principal at all state orchaestra is quite impressive, haha. What instrument do you play? I personally play the violin, but thought my state's orchaestra was lame so I didn't try out.

Haldar, they just want to see your thoughts for the literary analysis. It can only be 2 pages long, so I doubt they want you to cover everything.

Alright guys....time to go work on my essays, surprise surprise..hehe

Anyone interested in philosophy here besides me?

Philosophy absolutely blows my mind and I love it.
Took a session this summer and learned all about Plato, existentialism, and other good junk. =]

I play the oboe...interesting thing is, I know 2 of the other oboists are better than me. I play with them on a regular basis. Lucky audition tape.

do you mean you are repeating what already exists on sparknotes?

or are you talking about you are writing your analysis on one of those black/yellow books that sparknotes publishes? (in which case you would be analyzing analysis?!)

ditto jason-- i think i'm just going to say no rank as well

i'm not so stressed about the essays right now; i'm more stressed about getting the rec. and transcript in time and just sending it all in properly. and it kind of depresses me that i'm putting so much effort into something that's not going to happen, especially when i really, really, really want to go to tasp!

oh and here's my rank for seminars:
1. cornell II
2. cornell I
3. ut austin & michigan (tied...i can't decide)
5. wash u

am i the only person giving any love to cornell II? i think it sounds amazing! :D

Oh great....I love philosophy as well. =P I've been putting a lot of emphasis on that in my essays. Hope not everyone's writing about this. =S Oh, and principal oboe is amazing. Way better than anything I have. I don't have many awards either, but I don't really feel like my ECs are shoddy. Only maybe in comparison to some of the people on here.

roamorse, do you have any idea of a rough estimate of the acceptance rate for TASP from CC?

Point of reference: there is no cap on the amount of people TASP will take from one school. Last year, TA took three from the same school (in the boondocks, Missouri, of all places). Don't sweat the competition if it even exists. Just do your thing and be smart.

For the essays, are you guys more or less filling two pages? I'm worried that I'm not writing enough; my future ed essay is less than a page and my issue essay is like 1.25 pages (times new roman 12 single spaced).

suom_ynona, technology has been a big theme of discussion for me over the past year. i have spent alot of time thinking about it when discussing the evolution of society from caveman to modern day, the affects it has on the quality of life, the social responsibility we have (or dont) as human beings to advance our race, etc. I would love to go more in depth on the subject and answer several of my questions about it.

Jason4444: Dont be woried about the fact that your book is on sparknotes. The only thing is, if you havent allready read the sparknotes on the book DONT READ IT. You will just want to copy. I'm into drama and we do alot of monologue work and we have this thing were profesionals critique us, and what they look for is a common piece done differently. (Bad example)

So even if its a common book if you have a strong and perhaps fresh opinion and analysis it says alot about your ability to convey yourself well and not to mention your sort of an outside of the box thinker and from my understanding TASP eats that **** up.
