Ditto dandelion,
Lifeisgood:
"The substance of faith is a hope in the unseen"
That is some deep way of me telling you, write about your religion, if it is something that defines your life you would be foolish to not write about it, trust me on this one. All these essays turn out good because of the passion. I know you cant write as deep stuff about the use of symbolism in Lord of The Flies, after all Im not really moved by double ended spears and shi.t

Yes I know roam is a girl. I always knew that.
Ohhh Roamy... aww how cute :-P

Hey all,
another PSA from yours truly:
I haven't noticed anything on this thread that's been offensive, but I still want to remind you that this is a public message board and everything you say can be seen by everyone. That includes people involved in the admissions process. And you can bet the people at Telluride Association know about CC. My factotum at TASP (factotum = counselorish person) told me that she had matched up my file to my CC name before I was accepted. This was also true of an- i'll just say it- rather obnoxious and overconfident individual on CC- who, surprise surprise, was ultimately not accepted. Perhaps no one from Telluride is keeping tabs on this message board, and perhaps no one will even later in the admissions process, but just be careful.

P.S.- If you've sent me your essay, I will read it and get back to you soon. But please, I'll ask again, I would rather not read any more. Especially when it comes to the lit analysis, you're probably better off asking an english teacher or someone with a lot of experience with literary criticism (read: not me).

I would like to add that what I find annoying about this--is why are you so reliant on CC for ideas and information? ...I mean, do you really expect us to know how to optimize your application beyond what is common sense? Besides, if Telluride decides to choose you to attend TASP, it is because you possess an autonomous curiosity...because you DON'T depend on school assignments, teachers, you know...OTHER PEOPLE...to fuel what you do or don't do. You actively pursue your interests because you LOVE it...NOT because it's for debate (although it certainly can be) or your Extreme Level IB Hermeunetics and Post-Structuralist Theory class.

And so when you are actuallyASKING us WHAT books to read for TASP...ask WHAT you can do to impress AdCom...I'm not sure if that's the right attitude for a TASPer. I'm not saying this thread shouldn't exist...and I'm not saying one shouldn't ask questions about what they look for. But to actually extend that and ask WHAT TO DO...I mean, you really should be able to go through this by yourself and not rely on our spoon-feeding, which might not even be beneficial. That's what angers me. Sure, vegangirl is going to Yale and is an excellent advisor. ADVISOR. So, true, humans are naturally mimetic, but emulating what we have done is certainly not going to help you in the long run, especially in the interview.

Also, I've been somewhat mean on this forum - like with the "no your political stance doesn't matter you dope" or "i wrote that wiki you piece of f.uck"...I mean, don't take me seriously. I'D LIKE TO THINK THAT I'M A GOOD HUMAN BEING. So excuse my attitude.

Finally, regarding "OMG I HAVEN'T STARTED." Yeah. You're probably not the only one. Grace and I worked on the application until 1 in the morning in the library the night before the post-mark deadline. Then we found out that the online deadline was later...and then we proceeded to wait till the night of THAT deadline to submit--I submitted minutes before midnight (just as I have done this year with ALL of my applications). Grace--she was on the road and she actually had to construct and RECITE her essay over the phone to her sister. And what am I doing now? I'm heading over to Deep Springs in two days, and I haven't finished ANY of the essays. Instead, I'm wasting my time on CC.

I think so many people are so desperately leeching onto the past Taspers because they want so desperately to get in. Not a bad thing.

Some may get carried away, but I think it's all with good intentions.

Oh well. I don't really know what I'm talking about. Stupid school and stupid classes have been keeping me away from my essays...which I'm not really okay with. (With which I'm really not okay...whatevvvvvvvv!)

Quick question, for the Issue In Society that concerns you essay, could I possibly do a satire? Like one completely filled with ridiculous sarcasm so it should be obvious what I'm trying to say, just indirectly?

wang, agreed. and vegangirl brings up a good point. all the taspers have been a great help, but it's important to realize that they're not representatives of telluride. i'd say, use your best judgment. or contact tasp if you're still unsure.

anyways, happy essaying, everyone. mine still need a lot of work.

Wen: Is that question completely filled with sarcasm. Im sorry but have you looked at any of the past posts even just the past couple. You can write your essay on anything.

Billy: Word. You just have to be polite and mindful in the pursuit, atleast thats what I think Wang was trying to say. People on here are using past TASPers for what they are not who they are. All of them are really cool individuals who have a certain emotional complex which allows alot to be learned. Just because they are past TASPers doesn't make them some omniscient essay machine, all of them are on here because they are willing to help but thats a 2 way street and if you disrespect that they shouldnt feel the need to help you. So just be mindful.

AND THANK YOU [PAST TASPers] FOR YOUR HELP!!!

Seriously...so really, thanks to every single past Tasper who somehow has the patience to deal with all the ridiculously repetitive questions being posed.

Yeah, I suppose a thanks is in order.
So - thank you to all the TASP alums. Your patience and (miraculous) enthusiasm with us the past few weeks has been admirable. I guess we've all kinda taken your presence here for granted, so THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

Same goes for me. I'm currently swamped in scholarship apps and schoolwork + extracurriculars, so I don't really have time to check any more essays. Those who have already sent them to me, I will try my best to send you comments sometime before the deadline. Sorry, kiddos.

Bwahaha, I'd love to have Telluride check out this forum; it'd be hilarious.

Indeed; I include myself in the pool of the last-minute submissions. I waited until there were about 15 or 20 minutes left til' midnight. Then my internet connection died and I almost began to convulse. Thankfully, five minutes before the stroke of midnight, the Internet began working again and I hastily sent in my app. Whew.
