My mom already has my entire life planned out. I’m going to go to Harvard (she, apparently, has a “fool-proof” plan for me to get into Harvard if I get high enough SAT scores – I find this very suspicious, especially since she evades my questions whenever I ask for details) and major in business administration. After graduating with honors, I’m either going to continue my education at Harvard or go to some other school on a top ten list to earn my MBA, and possibly a PH.D. I’m then going to become a Wall Street investor making a six (eventually seven) figure salary. I’ll marry some rich guy, and we’ll spend the rest of our lives working and earning money and getting richer. Yes, my mom has got the future of our entire family down. My older sister’s going to be the doctor, me the business person, and my little sister the lawyer.
But I, being the rebel that I am of course, am somewhat skeptical about this life plan. No, not just skeptical: I’ve pretty much rejected it. Sure, I find business (somewhat) intriguing, but it’s just not something that I love. And I don’t want to spend the rest of my life doing something only halfheartedly, no matter how much money I might make. (Notice that there’s no mention of my happiness, health, or welfare in my so-called “ideal” life). Frankly, I find the image of myself dressed up in a suit every day on the chaotic floor of Wall Street, frantically trading stocks and urgently consulting with clients, well, hilarious.

ORRR

EDIT FORGET I EVEN POSTED THIS.

Haha ^^ I'll probably cut that out. I just think it's really funny but I don't know if it'll even go with the flow of my essay. We shall see.

BUT YEAH. does that make sense? Like, it's almost like I'm not being serious. But I'm being me. So that's cool, right?

Yea don't talk about you getting cut out of TASP. Lol.

yea be you, but use discretion when writing.

Only thing is get rid of the ()s Parentheses (sp) that sort of labels that stuff as less important.

After that first clip you need to go into what you really want. I'm sure you did.

I like your style, however, some people on here might have a heart attack after reading that, but i found it very me. My essays weren't written that chillaxly, but i was very personal.

I love parenthesis (sp?) !!! They are very important to me. They MAKE my style, pretty much. I love sidenotes. Ergghhh to cut or not to cut :(

Yeah I don't even think I'm going to do fate anymore. After long contemplation it's too complicated and too debatable. GRR I suck at thinking up topics.

Thanks for all this help, giantredlobster (corey?). I appreciate you spending your time on this forum, especially when there are many better things to be doing :P

But the parenthesis is what makes it so great! It makes it into a...sidenote/commentary type thing. I'll change a few into part of the sentence, but some of them HAVE to stay in parenthesis.

It just wouldn't be the same without parenthesis - the message would be different!

Yes. I'm Jenny, btw. We had finals before winter break :)

tako--that style shouldn't hurt you. at the same time, be sure not to get too reliant on the colloquial, ie I'd really avoid starting a sentence with 'and' or 'but' too many times. also, you might want to consider a more specific topic--fate is very very broad.

lindeek--if you're still looking for a conflict topic, think about situations that have been difficult for you. think about times when you've had to prove yourself / your morals / whatever. think about an event that made you particularly sad. etc.

i know we've already gone over this, but is it necessary to have sent your transcript and rec letter in today if you are applying online?

originally i was going to go the paper route, but today i decided online seems much easier, except for the fact of the recs and transcripts. i have no problem emailing them myself to find out, but if somebody else has already bothered them about it, i'd hate to do it again.

so if you have contacted them and recieved a response on this issue or read somewhereon this forum that someone else has, i'd really appreciate an answer to this mystery.

Hey everyone (: I'm another half-lurker here (only half because I've only read some of the posts, and because I couldn't really figure out how to confirm my account... not really the most internet-savvy person on the planet. Even though my dad eats, sleeps, and breathes Microsoft sixty hours a day. Yeah.)

Anyways it's been fun reading posts and realizing that other people are having just as much trouble on essays as I am. I've got rankings, book list, and future objectives under control, but need to focus my issues essay a lot more (so far it's just me rambling), finish up the literary analysis, and start on a conflict essay. The conflict I chose makes me sound like a typical whiny, angsty teenager who needs bigger issues to complain about :/ Yeah, it's personal but it's also way too... cliche. And stereotypical.

Haha over here in Seattle we've had snow since last Thursday, so basically I had a five-day weekend. Hopefully six if it snows some more tonight :D Definitely hoping for more time on these essays!

Haha rocketfuel you up in Redmond...? (based on your location and your dads employer)
Im envious of yalls situation up there, (im down in Sanfrancisco area) and its been dipping into the -teens but not cold enough to snow :-(. I miss the east coast.

Good luck on your essays sounds like your in a pretty good position, only thig i have to say is. If you think it sounds to cliche. Take a more subjective look at the essay, if you still feel like its missing something think about another eperience, maybe not just an external event but an internal happening and it doesnt nexcessarily have to be resolved (even the prompt asks how you resolved it) you can turn the essay into a call for action, sort of detail how you want to resolve it and what you will do. DOnt worry you don't always need a complete answer though.

Welcome to the biggest time-sucker in the world... This board :-P

Yup stuck in Redmond, home of geeks and nerds extraordinaire (:

This whole year has been pretty crazy, last month we had a power outage-situation for a week, but overall I'd much rather prefer your location. Redmond steals all of your potential snow and sucks it up here, mwahaha.

Thanks for the advice, I'm definitely trying to spend more time on doing that, and hopefully getting someone to edit my essays who won't be afraid to tell it to me straight and critique them like they were written by a kindergardener without a full grasp on the English language.

Haha I hope it won't resort to me refreshing this board every ten minutes, looking for new posts. (:

Gah i G2G study for chem final. I might as well give up, the 3 review packets (total of 179 questions) might aswell be in mandarin to me, i dont get it at all.

What is the formula for the oxide of element X in group VIIIA of the periodic table?
I didnt even know there was a group IIIA...

CC is like drugs. It's addicting, you get a temporary high when you're on it, but you feel like crap for hours after (if you read the "What are my Chances" forum and are totally an underachiever like me)

Err, VIIA is the halogens, so I guess VIIIA would be the noble gases. But they don't call it that I think. Anyway, I know that Xe makes Xe04, but I'm not sure about the other ones.
