IIIII made the 1000th post :D

I do have a life. Really. I promise. goes back to chem lab

WELL

Made the 1001th post!

I actually have no life. I spend my days writing TASP essays, browsing forums, and doing homework. Yes, I don't do anything else.

here's another idea: i don't know about everyone else, but i'm struggling a little with the second question, about any problem or topic you'd like to talk about. this may sound stupid but it's very... open, so i'm not sure what to do. would anyone who feels comfortable mind sharing what they're doing so i can get a better idea of where to go with it? thanks...and i promise... i'm not stealing your answers ;)

lol cdon being serious....

Well being that I don't know you i cant give any good examples.
But you can pick anything, the great thing about this question is that it gives you something broad, so you can make a specific question. Therefore you can interprete the question any way you want (well as long as its an outside issue)

Checks and balances' the reality of executive branch monopoly.

2nd hand smoke; public spaces vs. my home, how i have discovered the need to have a safer environment

I was just making up official sounding topics, BUT notice these 2 are different:
One talks about an outside subject and you can give your opinion.
The other takes an outside subject and directly relates it to your self.

i point this out because Tellu. wants to find out about cdon. Although both types of essays i outlined do this, the second one gives a much more personal approach. AND especially if your having trouble writing an essay 2 right now, doing something much more personal generally will be easier to write.

Notice to build on my advice though, be careful you arent making another conflict essay. You can relate this world essay strongly with yourself, but dont make it your problem. you can make a parallel or a call for action (how you want to improve the situation) but if its another essay 3 :-/

Hope that helps. :-D

Yeaaah! Post #1006!!

Cdon, is your name codon without an o?

lol. my issue essay is dangerously bordering on another conflict essay.

I haven't thought of an issues/topic essay either yet Cdon. I'm somewhat contemplating fate. Somewhat contemplating the use of emoticons in place of real emotions. Somewhat contemplating the use of acronyms and our need to shorten things. But I haven't got it yet. So I'm waiting. Hopefully my week at school will give me some inspiration.

-____-

In fact, I don't even have a conflict essay!

"My life is perfect, so I have no conflicts. The end."

^^ Less than two pages!

emoticons.... "I might just might use the >-( emoticon if I dont get into TASP." That is beautiful Tako.
I like how all of your topic ideas revolve around informalities when you are the most informal person in the world :-P. Dont you think that is sort of ironic, are you sure you arent emo (you self hater)..... <--happy i used parentheses.

Wait…

rocketfueled lives in Redmond, has a dad who works at Microsoft.

tako lives in Cupertino. If one of your parents works at Apple, we could have a TASP rivalry on our hands.

lol. crimson. I know more people in Cupertino who work at microsoft (mountain view campus) than those who work at Apple.

Also i have heard hella people say they want to go visit the Apple campus when they come to this area, :-/ not that exciting. They dont even have the giant posters you can see from the highway anymore. (lauren and jenny know what im talking about), 1 infinity loop is just another officepark :-(

haha I'm "emo" occasionally. Hmm I guess it is ironic that I want to talk about informalities when I'm such an informal person. LOL <- see what I mean? Hmmm actually that is very true. Out of all my friends, I probably use smiley faces THE MOST so I don't know if it'd be particularly smart if I talked about it, but then I could always relate it back to me and how I've been brainwashed by the world.

Haha funny story:
We did secret santa for journo, and so I made a card for my person, and she showed it to a few other people and my teacher, and THEY KNEW RIGHT AWAY IT WAS ME. Just because I used a few smiley faces. GOSH. At least my person didn't know. Haha.

Yes, I was (am) happy when you used parenthesis.

And crimson, no my parents don't work at Apple :( But my friend's dad does!

Hmmm but maybe I will do the emoticons thing. And then I can also talk about the lack of sarcasm in AIM because you can't tell if somebody is being sarcastic when you're talking online! There's no subtleties (sp?) in voices or anything, or eyebrow raising and you honestly cannot tell what people are thinking. Hmm if I get this down, maybe it'd end up being a good essay.

Hum. I don't like coming up with topics :(

so basically the shift from personal to impersonal interactions and their effects on forming sincere relationships in the context of our modern society.

Also I know someone who works for apple, the discount isn't amazing like 10-15%....
When my mom worked for adobe i got Creative Suite 2 for 75$ :-D. Now she works for yahoo :-( all i get is purple crap. Its annoying I went to her office to raid office supplies and all they have are purple sharpies!!! Gah.

I would like a purple sharpie. :)

Dang somehow you make essay topics sound really deep. :) I'm actually considering doing that as an essay now. But we shall see. I change my mind quite easily. OMG that would mean that I could use smiley faces in my essay. That would be the bomb. Excellent.

"The use of emoticons such as :) and :( and >:( and -_- and >.< and..."

hehe ^^

And though the discount isn't amazing (my friend gets 15%, yes) her family does get a lot of free apple stuff. Her dad gets each iPod as they come out (yes, for free), and they have Apple computers and speakers and stuff. So I think it's pretty cool.

My dad works for some random company in SF. No free stuff for me :(

My first post on this thread because I'm fraught with confusion. People seem to be implying that the deadline for essays is this week, but the TASP website says (in boldface!) "we will accept online applications through January 26, 2007." I see four distinct possibilities: 1. The website is spouting lies; 2. There is some inherent advantage in submitting applications early; 3. Everyone else is just confused; 4. There will be an unprecedented hole in the space-time continuum, and January 26th will occur sometime within this upcoming school week.

PS: Billy Liar, the Decemberists are my life. Did you see them when they played in San Francisco?

Jan 22nd is paper deadline.

And TODAY was the deadline for rec letters and transcripts if you ARE APPLYING ONLINE.

So get to that. ^^^The above rule is somewhat leanent (as in if you didnt realize this you can send it out in the next few days and be alright) and was on the homepage for online app.

Good Luck

lachant you from SF bay area as well...

Giantred - I don't know, 1 Infinite Loop was fairly cool when I visited. The Apple Store there is far superior to all others, and the cafeteria is excellent (Jobs is a vegan, which means that the vegetarian options are great). And I heard about Adobe's awesome discounts - my dad's a Mac developer, and he has a friend at Adobe who gets employee discounts for all of his friends. We haven't had reason to ask for one yet, but they're pretty sweet indeed.

tako - don't worry: the life of the programmer's son isn't as glamorous as it's made to seem :)

Haha my dad hates my ipod and wants me to convert to a Zune. He laughed in my face when my ipod's battery died and basically went "I told you so" for about a week. He's pretty hardcore.

An essay about emotions vs. emoticons would basically make my entire month. Especially if you included this emoticon: :9 It looks like it's licking it's lips!

Giantredlobster - Thanks for telling me that the Jan. 15 rule wasn't absolute! I honestly thought recs were due at the same time as the essays, found out it wasn't so a couple minutes ago and was slightly panicking until I saw your post. (I haven't even ordered my transcrips yet... yikes!)
