Tasp 2007

My APUSH class:

-Don't do $#@!
-Teacher gives us answers to his test the day before we take it
-We copy homework from people in different APUSH classes who are ahead of us (by 6+ chapters)

I have a 94% and I don't know US History at all...

haha, our apush class is so much busy work, making it different from my other ap classes which are more concept-oriented 0.o

mostly lecturing, less discussion =/

Are we sure abut the whole number-the-essays-individually thing? That doesn't make sense to me when individual essays aren't really supposed to exceed two pages. Page 1, Page 2, Page 1, Page 1, Page 2...???
Maybe I'll do some combo of both.

I'm still working on my app. Are they all supposed to be actual ESSAYS? To me the first 3 or 4 are, and possssssssssssssibly the last one, but number 5 says list. meaning....make a list. can somebody clarify this for me?

The book list is just a list, although you can add blurbs about some of your reads if you would like. The last one doesn't need to be in essay form, but you probably should include a thorough explanation of your rankings. I know some people are approaching the fourth one as a short answer question and others as an essay. Either should be fine. The first three? 100% essay.

Thank you so much LindeeK.

Now I must focus. So hard for me to do that lately (high school is becoming increasingly difficult for reasons unrelated to academics, but I keep on keeping on).

Must...finish...application...soon.

Must...finish........

LindeeK, about page numbering, what I am doing is for the first essay at the bottom of the first page it says
1 (Essay I)

and the second page says
2 (Essay I)

and so on, all the way through Essay VI.

Because if all we did was number them all 1,2,1,2,1,2, then all the unattached second pages would be indistinguishable.

how important is the book list...i jsut realized i only read TWO boooks outside of school...damn my app is NOT looking good.

Thanks, Comisar. That was my problem. And my solution.
Krelian: the other essays are more important. Make sure to include periodicals you've read, too. And I know how you feel. Our post office is lame, so I have 11.5 hours to complete my app and I'm not very happy with it at all. Remember that TASP will be worth it. Or maybe this is just another one of those character-building things. Ugh.

It's not only scholarships, Cor; it's also school. x.x And right now, I'm freaking sick. urgh.

Yes Sheep. In any case, use Fedex. They are great.

Well, tako, my school charged FIVE dollars for a transcript. Well, unless you're a senior; then they're free.

You don't have to write about your EC's unless you really want to. Writing style can be very misleading, by the way. Our factota told us that what came across from our essays was sometimes REALLY different than what came across from our actually being there. Personally, they were scared I would cause trouble or something, which was just really odd, in my eyes. But hey, sure, sure, Miss Aida, The One Woman Rebellion. Rock on.

"On the subject of an essay orgy: At TASP, I think one of the ways we got to know each other at first was by asking what we wrote our essays on"
Oh JEEZ, Bre! As I read that line, I thought you were going to see that one of the ways we got to know each other was by having an orgy!!! dies Anyway. On the first day, we sat in a circle and said our names, where we came from, and a poignant childhood memory. "poignant" turned into "painful," pretty soon, though. XD Lots of people that were bitten by dogs, others that fell from trees, etc. ^^ Oh, and we played "Guess My Ethnicity" lmao. That was amusing. Then, we said our names again with an adjective, so we could remember each other. I don't remember what I picked... but I know I said "Hey, really, call me whatever you want. If I know you mean me, I'll answer. Heck, you can even call me Snugglebunny."

Thanks to that, one of the TASPers always referred to be as Snugglebunny. XD

Abbreviate it "critnal!"

"tasp just seems like a huge orgy altogether, intellectually and emotionally and mentally. which provides the motivation for me to write these essays." Dude. That's exactly it.

Though no one asked me, I felt like sharing. Why did I INITIALLY want to go to TASP? "OMG THIS IS FREE!!!" :P There you have it. Aside from that, the topics seemed really interesting, I wanted to travel during the summer and get out of my house, and making friends would be awesome. I didn't really know much about it when I applied.

Crimson12, indeed. I would NEVER, EVER, EVER say any TASPer I have met has been superficial, jealous, and/or petty.

"Aida I (we) miss you. Be done with scholarships." Awww! :D

HAHAHAHA. Indelible! dies Sorry, TASP joke. A guy wrote on his goodbye letters to some people stuff like "You have left an indelible Aida-shaped hole in my heart." XD

Someone once described TASP as "the most glorious sleep deprivation of your life"... or something along those lines. And it's totally true.

Sleep is great; who here loves dreaming? raises hand Sleep is awesome, BUT... it's so time-consuming. It makes me feel unproductive. XD Right now, I'm totally falling asleep. And I have to deal with Scholastic and Swarthmore. WAH!

Haha, oh dear, Cor. Seeeeee why it's good to procrastinate? Or at least not send things in til' the last couple of minutes? :P

"am i the only one researching the names of factota of certain programs (old blog posts, articles, etc.)? im looking for anything that might sway me in favor of Cornell I or Austin, lol. oh and btw i think ive found it. or have i gone overboard?" Can you say STALKER? Yes, yes I can. :P I know some of the factota, woop de doop! I know Paul Benecki, Noah Rosenblum, and Linda Louie. Bwahaha!

Yes, Directorscut. An all-nighter means you go crazy and not sleep and then start gnawing on people's heads. The first time I did it was in December, methinks. I've done it this year, too.

"Ooh, that brings up a question for previous TASPers. How is the computer/internet situation? Do people bring their own computers, or what?"
Depends on where you stay. The Cornell house had about 4 PC's, but people still brought their laptops. They're honestly really handy, so if you have one, take it with you. Saves you the trouble of waiting for a comp to free up on essay-writing nights. ;P At other TASPs, they had to go to a computer lab...on campus? I think? Anyway. There are PCs on campus, yeah, so you can use those too.

I'm sleepy. I'm gonna nap for a bit, then get on my Swat essay. Then, Scholastic! And stuff. x.x

computer situation at wash u: about half the people brought laptops (it's great if you have one, but don't feel obligated to get one), and we had a computer lab in our dorm that had maybe 6 decent computers (all the time), and we also had access to the libraries on campus.

weird situations or details you need to know will be covered by factota...it's not something to worry about now.

Haha Aida. That was the most abridged synopsis of the last 50 pages :D

And don't chastise me for not procrastinating I definitely finished my essays on the alleged "due" date at 4am... Grr

Ah beautiful not having school today, slept till 2. Than I had to clean my house. But I still have not cleaned my room. :-/ There is not a single space on my floor where you can see my carpet (so much clothes and papers) :-P

I'm gonna go get a donut. Anyone want one?

my asst principal wrote my rec
yay
and I gotta go pick it up from school on Monday--we don't have school but it is a teacher workday

essay time

thats pretty chill DJ

I should like a donut, Corey.

My teacher wrote my rec :D I am so happy. I totally thought she would forget. Actually she totally might have. I reminded her at lunch, and she said she had to "print it out" and so I had to pick it up after school. Not sure if I believe her :P

OKAY so I have decided I shall finish all my schoolwork today, including major apush studying for Monday's test.

Tomorrow I shall be out from 7 am - 5 pm. When I get home, it's major essaying time. I WILL finish my book analysis + rankings + book list + think of a personal conflict + think of an issue/topic I should like to talk about. Sleep at 11.

Sunday I will dedicate to writing my personal conflict essay and my topic essay. MY VERY VERY OPTIMISTIC GOAL: Finish by 9 pm on Sunday. Probably won't happen. SO MY REAL GOAL: Finish by 6 am on Monday.

Monday: Get mother to send it out in the morning so it is postmarked January 22, 2007.

Wait just checking: I have my teacher rec + transcipts. There's nothing else I need, right?

Nothing tako, unless you are sending ur picture!

Phew. It's one of my deepest fears that I'll need something else from school, and then I'll be screwed over because it's the weekend!

Has anyone actually READ the assembly instructions??

Is it just me or is this envelope going to weigh quite a load??

is it alright if I have three transcripts in three different school envelopes

they are sealed with my school's sticker and signed (the transcripts are signed but not the envelopes)
