TASP 2017

It’s ok if the paper is over the word limit. They seem to be very lenient on that :).

@justyouwait I’m asking my guidance counselor to fill out my recommendation. I’ve been building a relationship with her since freshman year and I feel like she know’s quite a bit about me. One thing she definitely know’s more about me than any of my teachers do is my personal circumstances.

not really sure what to submit for the written piece… All of my graded work is a few pages long :frowning:

I’m submitting a short essay I got a B on. The grade isn’t the best, but I like the length and content.

Yo–can you guys/girls add me to the group? I emailed/messaged a couple of times.

@sesame2000 I added you a while back. You never created an account and you can’t join the groupme without one.

Oh…haha. Omg. I’m so technologically challenged. I didn’t know you had to create an account first. Thanks.

so, for all you TASP finalists, how are the interviews going?

@bluejay123 I am going to do mine today. I’ll update you.

Hi everyone! Former TASPer here (Cornell 2016). I was going through old TASP stuff and couldn’t help but remember the anxiety I felt in those weeks leading up to final decisions. As such, I decided to hop on the old college confidential and share some words of encouragement (and limited wisdom) with you guys.

First off, if you’ve made it this far, congratulations! TASP was one of the most formative experiences of my life, and I wish I could go back and do it all over again (yes, even the anxiety that came with waiting for decisions). If you made it this far, it’s because the people at Telluride saw that you were passionate about something and willing to pursue that passion. As far as interviews go, communicate that passion, and you will be accepted. Your grades and academic writing sample matter less than what the interview says about you as a person. Try to make the interview more of a conversation than a Q and A session. Really make an effort to get to know your interviewer and genuinely connect with them because that is what TASP is all about: building meaningful connections. The man who interviewed me, while impressive, was also extremely kind and went to all lengths to make me feel comfortable.

That said, as you wait out this next agonizing month, I’d encourage you to distract yourself by doing the things that you love. While TASP is an incredible experience, being accepted or rejected does not invalidate all of the effort you’ve put in to make it even this far. Take a deep breath, focus on the moment, and trust that everything happens for a reason. (Also, don’t use three cliches at once in your writing sample like I just did.)

I’m sorry if that sounded preachy, but I wish all of you good luck!

Hey guys! I’m new here to college confidential but I just had my interview this Saturday for TASP! I was reading up on some of these blog post and was wondering if anyone could as well add my to the google drive? I would love to read other finalist essays and share mine as well!
