TASP 2017

can i be added to the google drive too?

Hey guys, I’m new to this thread (and this site in general) but I’m moving onto the interview round and am wondering where everyone is from. I’m from California :slight_smile: also how are y’all preparing for the interview??

@ssn365 i just requested access to the google drive. i will share my essays too

Hey all! I’ve been lurking for a while and I popped in because I got accepted too!!! I’m screaming too!!! I’m an asian female from Southwest Virginia. No clue what to do for interview. I guess I’m rereading some of the works I included and brushing up on stuff I like but didn’t include in my application.

@ssn365 what’s your email? I have essays to share as well! Good luck to all of you!

are there any tasp alums here that could offer some advice for the interviews? i’m sooo nervous ;_;

Hi guys! This is my first post here…but I’m a finalist too!! Ahh i’m so nervous. This is gonna be my first interview ever Does anyone know if someone has started that GroupMe?

also @ssn365 I requested access a few days ago. could you add me as well? Thanks :slight_smile:

Good luck to everyone on their interviews!

I’ve found past threads to be really helpful for interview advice/anecdotes, but it would be super awesome if anyone had any suggestions!

@nova17
Hey, it’s me again! Just a pro tip on interviews – review your application/essays, make sure you understand and can go deeper on what you wrote (if you discussed election results/etc., be able to explain why it matters to you, how it’s relevant, etc.), and be prepared for the occasional curve ball (e.g. your perspective on recent events in the news --> basically, be a global citizen!).

All interviews are different and unique just like you and your application :), so be ready to show who you are as a thinker and writer, and ultimately, an individual of open-mindedness and interests. Don’t make anything up (there are only 24 hours in a day, after all), but don’t leave anything out (bring your best self and discuss anything you’re proud of, like an award for winning a debate or something, but also other “intangible” accomplishments like overcoming a speech impediment or working a job to support your family).

Remember that the interviewers are all human and most likely went to a TASS/TASP/Branch House, so they’re quite familiar with the program/their own experiences. And they’re coming back, maybe even 30 years later as established professors/leaders in industry/renowned artists, because this experience was very meaningful to them. So if you can clearly show that you’re interested and care about expanding your horizons, but also offer another diverse perspective for other participants in the program, then you stand a really great chance.

Best of luck to all of you! If/when you make it, I would appreciate knowing! <3

@PotatoStorm thank you so so so much for the tips!!

I created the TASP 2017 Groupme. Message me for more details

I will add that the interviews can be a bit intimidating. One of my interviewers last year graduated magna cum laude from Harvard. if you’re confident, you will be fine.

Did you do TASS?

yes. i did tass at the university of michigan

I added everyone to the Groupme that contacted me. If I forgot to add you, I’m sorry. just remind me to add you

Hello, I am new to college confidential, but I was accepted as a finalist for an interview as well!!! I was actually doing something for another application at the time and I was at the library so I couldn’t make too much noise, but it was a pretty amazing feeling.

Another finalist. Omg. So excited – wasn’t expecting to make it to this round.

For all you finalists and previous taspers out there, what type of paper written for class are you planning on submitting? Should we send in a copy of a creative writing draft or something more along the lines of a research paper?

most of my class papers are very long by design, so I only have 1 essay that remotely approaches the word limit (it’s still over it by a bit), so I’ll be submitting that. I really don’t think the type of writing matters; it wouldn’t be fair at all to impose a very narrow range of categories–everyone has different classes and different assignments after all

I got my finalist notification over the weekend, and I’m super hyped to keep going through the application process! :slight_smile:

For the essay, I’m submitting one that I wrote during a timed, in-class assignment. Hopefully it’ll be okay!

Quick question for all of you - who’re you asking to fill out the recommendation form? I’m thinking about asking one of my elective teachers. My only concern is that they may want it to be completed by a teacher for one of my core classes :V can any TASP alumni weigh in?

I’ve added all of the TASP Finalists that have messaged me so far. It’s possible that I forgot to add someone so if I forgot you, just DM me again.
