@Kingtape I would try and find a transcript of the podcast.
This may be dumb but how do they choose what program they put you in? Is it based off your essays and your interview and they decide which would be the best fit? I really want Cornell 1
@Kingtape I don’t think they’re very strict with what you use for critical analysis. I used a rap song for my application to TASS, and I know a person who used a movie, so I think you can use any form of media as long as you explained how it changed your thought process well.
@CreativeWalrus how about a work of art? or does it have to be something with words?
@collegeSLAPS there is a section later in the application for session prefefence
@kanagawa I’m a little unsure about art, as the prompt specifically says text, and says to refer to the text in your essay. But at the same time, I could definitely imagine an essay about a piece of artwork being just as insightful as an essay about a book or essay. If you really want to use a piece of art, maybe email Telluride and see if that would be okay?
@CreativeWalrus that’s a good idea–thank you for the thoughtful response!!
Sometimes I wonder at the logistics of it all. I’m spending a disproportionate amount of time writing long ass essays for a program whose acceptance rate is miniscule. Even the most qualified applicants (a group of which I am not a part) must be subjected to a crapshoot. It’s a whole lot of effort for what boils down to a lottery ticket.
The program does sound awesome, though… and the significance of “3%” hasn’t completely hit me yet, I guess
Actually, I would disagree. My daughter just submitted her application and I thought it was a great exercise in essay writing. It’s a skill that will really come in handy when writing college application essays. As a matter of fact, I think one of the essays she wrote is halfway to a great college application essay. I really don’t think it’s a waste of time at all.
@Kingtape I agree, I’ve found the application experience to be a very harrowing process, lol.
No disrespect to @falconSSES, I understand their point as well. These essays will be convenient to have later on. Not to use, but to call upon.
Maryland, Cornell I, Cornell II, UMich for me
• If you attended TASS, please reflect on that experience and explain what in addition you would hope to gain from and contribute to TASP.
This means that if we didn’t attend TASP, we don’t have to respond to this question, right?
ignore ^^ I couldn’t read for a sec. Here’s a better question - under the parent descriptions what does “community activities” mean?
Under Telluride’s FAQ this is what they say about community activities:
“Community activities are any activities in which your parents or guardians participate for which they are not compensated, such as youth sports coach, church treasurer, Habitat volunteer, or PTA member.”
how far along are all of u with ur essays? i still have one to write
@kanagawa I finished mine but they aren’t very long. I wrote them out first so that I wouldn’t worry about a word count, but they all ended up only being around 40-100 words higher than the minimum.
@kanagawa I am done.
Acckkk I finished rough drafts but they’re all above the word limit at the moment
@Anonymousia I base this off of nothing but gut feeling, but for whatever reason that username is one I’d expect to see in May writing “I GOT IN” in all caps…
I spent a while over winter break obsessively going through most of the TASP threads on CC, and your username has that “it” factor common to many who got it… idk. There’s something to it lol
Now that I’ve typed that out, it sounds like complete BS, but there you have it
wouldn’t be surprised if you got in
@Kingtape ahahaha thanks for telling me that’s would be so great if it would come true! here’s hoping~~ i came up with this username as a 7th grader LMAO
guess we’ll just have to wait and see ahhhh
in the meantime i’m just gonna do the same thing and obsessively keep checking TASP threads…
