Since an Angelino already got an acceptance letter (MSMDAD), I guess that means I got rejected. Any other west-coasters get a letter yet?

I wasn't really expecting it (my personal conflict essay was crap & my topic analysis pales in comparison with those who made it), but it still stings a little.

Congrats. to everyone who made it and good luck at the interviews.

I know we talked about this a while back, but what did everyone write their essays on? I remember thinking a lot of your topics seemed really original and brilliant. Mine, on the other hand, are kind of the standard fare-

future plans- I wrote about To Kill a Mockingbird (my favorite book) and how's it's influenced my interest in writing/social justice. I brought up a lot of big ideas in this essay kind of casually that I now need to think more seriously about before my interview (the purpose of art, the definition of success, etc)

book list- I gave about 35-40 titles (now that I look at it, I'm wondering what I was thinking listing that many!). They range from "heavy" literature (king lear, candide, the great gatsby) to fun stuff (harry potter, fight club, high fidelity). I also listed a bunch of history books, mostly on the civil rights movement and japanese american internment, and some poetry. I only put down two periodicals- time magazine and my local newspaper. I'm politically aware, but not particularly knowledgeable. I'm worried about how i'll fare with that in my interview.

lit analysis- I wrote about narrative voice in the poem "Things I Didn't Know I Loved" by Nazim Hikmet. This was definitely one of my weaker essays- I just rambled on about why I love the poem, basically. No good.

specific issue- this was one of my better essays, i think. It was certainly the most thought out of them all. I wrote about (surprise surprise) the ethics of veganism. I talked about how ethics supporting veganism can actually be taken from very traditional ethical theories, and offered some other ideas about why i think veganism is the most moral dietary choice.

conflict- I didn't like this one when I was writing it, but reading over it, I think it's a better essay than I originally thought. It's still not my best work, but it was okay. Anyway, I wrote about a documentary I made about a gay civil rights activist for a competition, and my dilemma between telling his full story (including unsavory details about his personal life) or ignoring it and telling a "safer" version of the story to increase my chances of winning.

choice list- i basically wrote, please please let me go to the civil rights seminar. i will love you forever. sincerely, me. yep. very articulate, i know.

I might post my topics again later, but for now, my French coursework awaits... Congratulations to all of the new names-- it's so nice to see our number of candidates grow!

So true! Austin personally was my second choice (perhaps unsurprisingly?), but it seems like that and Michigan by far are getting no love at all. Poor Michigan.

How do you think the dynamics will be at the Cornell house? Foreign policy and medieval lit are not exactly (at all) very complementary. Even despite that, though, I've been wondering since I first heard of TASPs in general how that house really functions, with so many more people than the other three TASPs.

My interview will probably be at the UMich Telluride House since I live about a half hour away from the Michigan campus. One of my main reasons for not picking the Michigan seminar was that I felt that the topic was too narrow and that I needed to get out of the state of Michigan and go to someplace new this summer!!!!!!!!!:)

I was just thinking nice black pants (it's been rainy for the past few weeks so too cold for skirts) & a pretty colored satin blouse? Something that looks nice without going too overboard. Then again, it'd help to know where and when my interview's going to be. =]

What kind of shoes for girls? I'd rather not look like my mom. lol.

I'm thinking nice flats, black pants, and a blouse or sweater. Then again, you may want to rethink the flats if you're more petite (I'm fairly tall, so I rarely wear heels). I'd definitely nix wearing mom's shoes - I made that mistake in Mock Trial one year and regret it to this day. LOL

Ahhhhhhhh postmarked March 3rd? Lol, Oasis, let me know if you get anything. I'm thinking I won't be getting anything until the 10th, at least, and that's only if they sent out the rejections at the same time as the acceptances.

And congrats to EVERYBODY!!!! (And evilasiandictator was totally right about CC applicants rawking it up. yeah!)

hey_la, ktee, I guess it's just us now. I am much more of a science person than a humanities person (3 of the 4 programs I applied to are science-related), so I don't know much about my chances. Bleh =p

Congrats to everyone though!!

hey_la, yeah, I guess we wouldn't know until this Friday at the earliest. After all, I received the TASP postcard about one and a half weeks after the American students did.

I GOT AN INTERVIEW YOU GUYS!!! =) im shocked and excited and nervous. and kind of worried.. mine's going to be over the phone bcuz i live in taiwan. haha. is that good or bad??!

congrats everyone! let's rock the interviews so we can FINALLY meet each other. ;)

I was thinking pinstriped pants and a blouse for the interview, but I might wear a skirt. Nothing too fancy, but I do want to look professional.

To those who are still waiting for a letter and under the impression that no news is bad news, don't lose hope.

It is my understanding that letters were sent out to ALL applicants, regardless of whether they were accepted or not, from Ithaca at the end of last week. So just because you have not as yet received a letter doesn't necessarily mean that you were not moved on to the interview phase.

It's strange, though, that no one on this thread has posted that they have received a rejection letter.???

Also strange, to me, that no one has had Michigan as their first choice.???

Mm... I still don't see why you think they'd like me, Mindy. O_O In any case, I haven't gotten anything yet, so I'm assuming rejection in lieu of hard evidence XD. I am in Germany though, and it can take a while--I didn't get the initial tasp application until sometime in early January, I think.

As I said though... assuming rejection. Heh.
