Tattoos!

we have a thread on piercings, why not tattoos? :)
this dude at my school who's pretty cool, smart, straight As recently got "branded". his motto - "ladies love a man who can take the pain". It just kinda came surprising coming from him, but really, tattoos are becoming more wide-spread.

So it made me wonder, would anyone here get a tattoo? or maybe you already have one? if so, what do you think you'd get burned into your skin, and where? Even if you know you wouldn't get one for sure, do you know something (picture, saying, etc) that you're so attached to that you wouldn't mind getting it inked into your body forever?

I used to look down on them like most of today's society, but now they look pretty cool, pretty daring. They've increased in popularity though, as more actors, actresses, and other popular figures have them.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_famous_people_with_tattoos

I know I probably won't get one, I mean if my parents can't even handle silly things like online chatting, I think they'd just die, literally, if I came into the house with a tattoo one day. Haha. I can already imagine the look on their faces, and then just seeing them pass out.

I have a tattoo. Got it last summer in Israel, because the piercing/tattooing age is 16, so I was able to get it legally done in a nice clean, licensed place. :)

I'm a straight-A, responsible person and it drove me absolutely crazy when people went on about how they didn't expect me to do something like that.

I got a black Magen David (a Star of David), about an inch in diameter, on my right hip. I am very fond of it, and it can be covered easily. My parents still don't know about it, and its been almost a year. And I know that technically Judaism forbids tattooing-- I can still be buried in a non-Kosher cemetary. I'm not exactly religious at all, it's more of a cultrual and heritage thing, just like having a cross or a country's flag.

I think tattoos are a personal choice, and if someone wants one they should get one, and other people should refrain from making judgements about it.

you sinners!

Haha, that's so cool. smart of you to get it done in Isreal. did it hurt as much as they say it does? I'm amazed your parents don't know yet, props to you :)

And yeah, sometimes people can be unwillingly stereotypical. I think it's just where I've been preached over and over on how "bad" they are throughout my life, on children shows, etc. but it serves as a neat way of expressing yourself. I think if I did get one, I'd get a life quote, something short and sweet, in chinese or arabic or something, on the back or on an arm bicep. and maybe a flower near my ankle.

Northwestlover .. tsk. body art can be erotic you know. and sensual. ;)

Nah, it really wasn't too bad at all. It was uncomfortable, but I expected that. The most painful part is that it bruises afterwards, and people would come up to me and say "So, is it real?" and poke it really hard.

It's pretty easy to keep hidden, because I specifically chose to get it done in a spot where it isn't visible when I wear most things. I was thinking not only about my parents, but about when I'm an adult and possibly working for a more old-fashioned company. They don't like lots of piercings, and visible tattoos probably wouldn't be appreciated either.

I've been thinking about getting something else done, but I'll probably wait until I'm at least 18 (which is in December, so its no big deal). Plus, considering this is on my body for the rest of my life, I don't want something "cute" that I'll regret when I'm 30.

I'd never ever get a tattoo. I'm far too afraid of needles. I also can't think of anything I'd want on my body for the rest of my life.

i have had an idea for a tattoo for about 6 years, but now that i'm the legal age i'm thinking it over a bit more....and i have to pick where to put it!

My friend and I are going to get peace signs on our ankles (easily coverable) next year when we're 18.

She cried when she got her ears double pierced, though (at age 15), so I don't know how it's going to work out for her lol.

I want a tattoo. Not sure what kind, though.

Man now i'm really considering one, i mean as long as you can conceal it . . I guess someone could get anesthesia if they thought the pain would be too much. But the whole point is to .. "endure the pain". Haha. Anyone know if it's expensive?

yeah, I don't know why the legal age is so old. Actually if they made it lower, younger teens wouldn't have to resort to shady places, and I bet the whole "you can get aids, hepatitis B blah blah" risks would go down. I mean, how come kids can drive at 15, 14 in some places, and not even get a tattoo until they're 18? Don't tattoos grow with the skin?

There are soo many celebrities that have them and I never realized .. some get them only in places their lovers could see .. like the "derriere". A nice red rose there would be alluring . . :)
The rockstar, Pink, has like a pair of scissors tattooed inside her wrist. pretty neat. There's soo much you can do with them.

If you go in expecting pain, it'll probably hurt. Mine took about fifteen minutes, and for the first minute it hurt. After that I got used to the feeling, and it didn't bother me. As for the cost, it was probably around $45 (200 shekel).

My advice for those who want to get a tattoo is to make absolutely sure you want it, and be positive that you won't mind having this image on your body when you are 30, 50 or even 100. When I got mine done, for the first few hours I was really excited, and my friends and I were all counting down the minutes until I could take off the bandage. Later the night it really sunk in that I had gotten this tattooed on me, and that it was permanent.

"Anyone know if it's expensive?"

Depends on the studio/artist. Some artists charge hundreds an hour, other shops charge less by the hour and others will give you a figure after you pick something out(if you are unoriginal...) or show them your design. I sorta picked one off the wall(since I'm a terrible artist and had no pictures) but told the artist different customizations I wanted and he threw a price out after I told him what I wanted. Took about an hour and cost me $85, pretty decent sized for the price and customizations/colors I wanted.

And about pain...the only thing that even minorly hurt was the outline. The coloring in felt like a pen on the skin, but the outline was more of a scraping burn. Of course I got it done in a place with alot of muscle so that could have helped out...

it's a sin to mark your body. And know I'm not that spiritual. Actually I am! I love my god.

Tattoos are disgusting.

it kinda depends on what kind of tattoo it is. if its one that screams "drunk and 18" or "tramp stamp" then its tacky. i hate when guys get the barbed wire around their bicep, especially if they have no muscles; its so tacky.

I'm planning on getting one behind my right shoulder. I just want s pretty small outline of the sun on my right shoulder. It would be pretty cool, I think.

I don't have a problem with them, but I just don't want one. Whatever, it's a personal choice.
