I was talking to my friend earlier about financial aid for U of I, and according to her, they had contacted her and asked her to send her 2007 tax returns. I was confused hearing this because i didnt receive any letter that asked me to send tax returns, and all signs on the website seem to indicate that they only need FAFSA and nothing more.

So i guess my question is...do some schools ask for tax return forms wihtout it being sent through IDOC? Or was this just a special case for my friend?

If your FAFSA EFC has a * by it it indicates you are selected for verification (about 30% are selected for verification). Then the school may request copies of parent and student tax returns, W2s and a verification work sheet. If you have not been asked for it do not worry about it.

Are you both talking about the same school? Not really clear from your post. If you are talking about different schools, then yes, different schools have different requirements. Some use IDOC, some just use FAFSA, some use CSS and FAFSA, some need IRS forms, etc. WOW! Lots of alphabet soup! If you are talking about the same school, then swimcatsmom answered your question.

yes, many schools don't use IDOC. in fact, more schools on my list don't than do. besides, it's simpler without idoc. just send all your w-2's and tax returns in.
