Tax Returns

The University of Rochester asked for my family’s tax returns about 2 weeks ago. Is this standard in the application process? Also, is this indicative of my chances of being accepted? MyROC says that I am on “Step 4”. I applied for financial aid but not merit aid/scholarships.

Tax returns are usually requested as part of the verification process for financial aid. Most schools do that.

Fellow student, I understand your concern. I hope that you do not worry. UofR asks for tax return in the final steps of your admission meaning that you will either get admitted or declined very soon. If you are in the top 1% of the income bracket then there is a chance that you will be denied because the school does not like rich people. Additionally, if your dad works for Microsoft you will be accepted automatically because UofR has a personal tie up with the company and all students who have parents at Microsoft are admitted. Because they asked for tax return on Step 4, you will not be getting financial aid otherwise they would have contacted you earlier.

isaacjones is very confused-ignore that post.

MADad is correct. My son is also on Step 4-we sent in the IDOC earlier this week. Once you send in the forms you should hear within the next two weeks I’m guessing. The request for tax returns has no bearing on whether or not you will be accepted or how much financial aid you will get. Hang in there!

You should not infer anything about application status based iDOC’s requests from 2/15. iDOC sent out a bunch of requests two weeks ago based on the defaults that each school asks for. In many cases the schools are not asking for those files at present. You can always call the FA office at UR and verify if they actually want those files from you.
