Michigan fin aid requested that I submit my and my parent’s tax transcript but they haven’t asked for income tax returns or W-2’s. Is this normal? Will I eventually have to send my the tax returns or no? It is just strange to me because Michigan is the only school that I applied for financial aid to that has not requested for income tax return forms/w2’s.
No, they want the transcript and not the actual tax forms, because they can’t trust that you filed the forms. The transcript is a summary of what was filed.
Sometimes they want the W2s if they need to separate the parents’ incomes.
Also, even they use CSS profile, they don’t use IDOC through CB.
You can get the tax transcript online if you can verify your login. If so, you can forward the transcript to them within 1 day. Otherwise, it may take up to 3 weeks by mail. Do it quick as they may revise the FA package after receiving the document and that may affect your decision. My daughter got more grant in the official FA package received the week after they received all documents.
