TCC/Southgate

My son was deferred in Dec. and now denied. His plan is to attend TCC and then transfer to FSU for his junior and senior years. We have been looking at Southgate housing which is on campus and offers parking as well as a food plan. Anyone have experience or input on these 'alternate' plans?

If your son really wants to go to FSU then go for it, its not a bad option at all unless he really dislikes people who arent all into academics.

My daughter is currently dual enrolled at TCC and is considering staying there instead of going to FSU. She’s been at TCC for 2 1/2 semesters. My husband and nephew recently left TCC and are now at the universities in town. Now, I stated that to say this. My husband is actually kind of encouraging her to stay at TCC. He believes she’ll get a better education. Along with more one on one time with instructors. He would rather her get her AA through TCC then go FSU for the rest. With either one, you’re accomplishing the same thing for this time period. But I would definitely apply to FSU also, if your sons heart is set on it. Some kids really don’t care about academics there. However, if yours does, then that’s all that matters. I’ve lived in Tally my whole life, so I know the area. Southgate is in a good area. Parking will come in handy. But it’s not too crowded. I think you have a great alternative plan. If you need anything just let me know.

Thank you cymp027. I am happy to hear good things about TCC, especially that the classes are smaller and there is more one on one time with instructors. Southgate seems to have it all, although we haven’t actually seen it yet. He does have his heart set on FSU-both his sisters go there so I’m sure he will get there eventually! Your input is reassuring, thanks again.

Lot of people attend TCC. It’s a pretty decent sized CC compared to some I’ve seen in Central Florida. A buddy of mine recently transferred into FSU after going through the two years at TCC.

In regards to SouthGate: It’s quite expensive, but its a pretty nice facility. It is rather safe (a friend was a Resident Assistant, and i am familiar with a few workers), and the food is pretty decent. There’s a large ball room with a bunch of TVs for lounging around, they have computers a large projector and several video game equipment for kids to use. They also have a decent gym. It is however, a decent distance from TCC.
