Hi there! I know TCNJ is ranked higher as a school overall, but is TCNJ superior to Drew with the English Dept? My DD really likes both schools. Thanks!
I’m the practical one, so let me ask this - Drew has a COA of 66,000 per year. TCNJ is 34,000.
Is Drew twice as good as TCNJ? Not a chance.
Even at the same price, I’d still pick TCNJ, but your mileage may vary. If you can afford either, then by all means choose. I’d think it was more important to come out with less debt and make the best out of the opportunity at any school.
Best of luck!
TCNJ is higher ranked in just about all categories over Drew. Good luck .
Thanks! With scholarship money, Drew could actually end up being less than TCNJ, so taking money out of the equation for this question (for now, lol).
@NJmom71 Please let us know what the scholarship offer is from Drew and the final decision! I always feel like these posts are cliff hanger “to be continued” - and I wanna know what happens next!
On rankings I’d guess that TCNJ would win. But if she gets the scholarship to Drew and price is not a factor, I’d also look at fit. For example: does your D want that more intimate small school experience or would she prefer the feeling of a mid-sized university?
Hi there, thanks again! Will keep you posted. It is just hard, because Drew is smaller, so don’t get as much info about it as other schools.
Can she do an overnight at both?
Not sure, but will investigate that option…thanks!
Drew and TCNJ are in two different leagues - TCNJ is much more academically sound.
Drew is now no longer in the running. A Drew staff member, whose position is to actually help students, does not appear to like his/her job there. That spoke volumes to us, and convinced my child to not even apply. Thanks to all! DD has now applied to TCNJ :).
Wow, crazy. I know a few kids currently at both schools or recent graduates of both schools. Those at/from Drew LOVE it while those at/from TCNJ simply Liked it. The two English majors (one from each school) are both High School teachers. To each their own I guess…
You are absolutely right! But we spoke to this Drew staff member more than once, (I was hoping that maybe this staff member was just having a bad day the first time) and made two visits, and reached out to two former students (One really liked Drew, the other one transferred out, despite being child of a faculty member)and a current prof. We also visited TCNJ twice and spoke with staff member in same position as Drew staff (this TCNJ person clearly loved her job) and two professors. The kids we spoke to at TCNJ LOVED it there. I guess the universe was just sending DD signs not to apply to Drew, lol.
