Teach For America 2013 Corps

I applied to places in the South, since I was born and raised down here. My highly preferred locations are Charlotte, Nashville, Atlanta, and New Orleans.

If you were asked in your one-on-one interview if you were scared/worried about working with kids in low-income schools, how did you respond? I immediately said I wasn’t scared or worried. I hope I didn’t come off as arrogant, but confident haha.

I know I was the one who originally opened the can of worms about TF changes, but seriously, I don’t think it means anything. So, don’t worry about it guys haha.

I emailed the TF people because I was worried about my stuff saying N/A. I got a response this morning saying that my app hadn’t even been touched yet and that they are processing apps as soon as they came. She gave no hint of order though.

I applied all over the place. I’m definitely interested in middle/high school math/science, but as for region assignments, it’s everywhere. NYC, Chicago, Bay Area, Seattle, St. Louis, Philly, Massachusetts, DC, LA, Memphis and New Orleans.

I’d be okay anywhere really, even places not on that list.

Maybe we will know earlier in the day on Nov. 1St than I originally thought. Looking at last years thread, many people were finding out at around 3:30 pm (I am assuming this is eastern time). And it wasn’t just acceptance notifications but also rejections.

That would be awesome if I was sitting in class and I got an acceptance notification. I may just cry, scream, or stand up and yell “hell yeah!”

@mflana4, Yea we have the same regions.

@readytoteach

I’m fully prepared to cartwheel down my work row

TF status went to complete today after getting that document fixed.

Anyone from Friday interviews getting a complete TF?

@TFAwannabe2013: Interviewed Friday and still no changes. waaaaahhh! :(

@TFAwannabe2013

Were you a Friday?

@TFAwannabe2013 I interviewed Friday and I don’t have any changes either.

@RShackleford I was also raised in the south, but I put very few southern regions on my preference list. I’m surprised by how many people listed Charlotte. I did as well, but didn’t expect it to be so popular. What were some of the factors involved for those of you who listed Charlotte?

Mine officially changed over today.

Interview Date was Thursday.

Transitional Funding Application Status: Complete

Your application has been approved. You will be able to see your award amount below after the notification date, should you be accepted to the corps.

Also, just asking again, anyone choose Cleveland along with me :)

@Crazygolfer68 or anyone who got the chance to attend last night’s webinar… again this might be premature but what kind of information did you learn about people who will get in regards to the summer institute, preparation, and requirements?

Also to everyone else haha I think I might have mentioned this before but honestly I think that the TF status might be linked to when you submitted your app and not necessarily your interview date. I also believe that it might be done by region. So try and not to stress TOOOO much about it :slight_smile: Best of luck everyone! Only one more week left!

Hi guys! My recruiter actually told us that the TF status and acceptance do not correspond as they’re not completed by the same people. So don’t read too much into it and get down on yourself!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/internships-careers-employment/1220306-teach-america-2012-corps-6.html

For those who are bored and want to look at last years threads. There is another thread from the year before as well. One person for sure had complete on their TF and did not get in. I only posted mine because it seems like something fun to do because we have to wait a week.

Highly Preferred: Baltimore, D.C, NY, MA,PA

Least Preferred: LA, MIA,CHARLOTTE,DETROIT, ATL

I picked my regions based on the universities TFA partners with for your masters. I would prefer to get a masters vs. certification, its only a few more classes. I also wanted to live in the city, since I don’t have a drivers license.

So, I was checking over some of the threads from 2012 applicants. While there is not a direct correlation between TF changing to “complete” and acceptance, there is definitely a damn good chance you will get in if yours already changed to complete; my guess is at least 90% chance of getting in after the updates. That is a much better odd than mine at this point.

@ElleVintage: that’s how I picked a lot of my regions, too! I am really interested in the master’s program… and a lot of the universities (even the really good universities) offer pretty good tuition discounts and what not for the TFA corps members… I didn’t preference any region that doesn’t offer a master’s program.

@iTEACH: don’t worry !! remember… these discussion boards are only composed of a very small cohort of applicants… there are definitely a lot of other people out there whose results/statistics we know nothing about ! try to stay positive- nothing is truly set it stone until next Thursday! :)

It’s funny, though, that we are all saying “don’t worry about the TF status” … yet none of us can stop worrying about the TF status, hahah.

@advocateforlife: they said a representative from your region would be reaching out to you to discuss the details of everything specific to that region. Then you can make your decision with that knowledge in hand. It is case by case (how much and what paperwork, etc.) you have to fill out based on where you wind up.

I am really second-guessing my answers for the interview and everything. Gahhhh. Please fast-forward seven days so I can just find out about this.

I’m keeping myself occupied, next week Thursday will be here quickly. Overall I think I did great, but you never know. I was surprised I nailed my phone interview, I was taking a practice LSAT, when I found out I made it to the final interview and I cried. It’s a very competitive program. I read an article that said your more likely to get into Harvard or Yale vs TFA. We’re all awesome because we actually made it this far in the process. So keep positive thoughts and stop stressing yourselves out. If it’s meant to be, it will happen, if not,something else will work out.
