Teach For America 2013 Corps

I submitted my SAR, proof of private loan balance, fed student loans, and proof that I got the Pell grant once upon a time.

I also interviewed 10/19 and have nothing in my documents boxes

Do the Recruiters and Admissions work together at all? Meaning do they communicate with each other?

@crazygolfer68 - I got the impression from my recruiter that they did not collaborate with the selectors.

I am hoping that Nov. 1st will be similar to the day that the final interview signup became available. I read that the signup would be at 6:00 pm eastern but i got an email hours earlier saying it was available. That way i won’t have to sit down and frantically refresh my email over and over again.

Guys, I might need a virtual hug after next week if I’m not accepted. Here’s hoping we have something to celebrate come next week.

@Ready2teach I’m 100% with you! I’ll need a hug for sure too!!!

I am almost already preparing myself for rejection. I just wish next Thursday would come already. I did not apply for TF but almost wish I did so I could use that as a bit of an indicator.

I think y’all are reading too much into TF and its significance. Maybe some places just process it faster than others. There could be a multitude of reasons for TF discrepancies.

I got accepted into City Year for Los Angeles so I know that if I don’t get into TFA, I’ll be headed to LA to help children anyway. And even if I make it into TFA and go somewhere not in the southwest, I most likely won’t be able to go because my fianc

@ready2teach: I was thinking the exact same thing! I was so happy that I was able to pick my final interview time early… but I have this inherent feeling that because Nov. 1st is such a big deal… it won’t be available early, ha.

@crazygolfer68: I totally agree- I’ve really been thinking a lot about the chance of not being accepted. Somehow I feel like if I accept the fact now that things might not work out, it will be easier to take when the final decision comes… but be thankful that you didn’t apply for TF! At this point I wish I had waited to apply for it because the change/no change in TF is clearly driving some of us insane.

I’m sure other people are having some negative feelings about Nov. 1st (like me)… but you never know… it really can go both ways, so try to be positive :)

Oops… I was also going to ask if anyone listened in on those webinars they have listed on the applicant center…

One of them was about “what comes next” and the other was about partner organizations of TFA… I think there is one tomorrow, too.

So, did anyone attend these? I wanted to (in case they gave out any insanely helpful/calming information) but I had class…

If you did listen in, and learned anything important- let us know ! :)

AND…

Congrats @RainbowDaisyGirl on your acceptance to City Year!
I am considering City Year as an option, too, if not accepted to TFA.

:)

@mflana4 yes I listened to the “What comes next” webinar and it was pretty useful. They did talk a lot about what happens if you are not accepted into the corps. They were also very good about responding to questions from listeners. Definitely made me more excited by the possibility of joining the corps.

I am at the point where if I’m not accepted, then it just isn’t in God’s plan for me right now. However it would kick butt to be accepted!! One more week, ahhhhhh!!

Also, i received my notifications earlier than they said however, from last year’s posts, it looks like the actual acceptance email is held until the reported time.

Virtual hugs all around

@ RainbowDaisyGirl - Last year I was accepted to Americorps but I had to let it go ( even though, I really wanted to do it) because they ask that I delay on graduation plan. I was going to be the coordinator between a partnership between the public schools and the churches in the community to mentor the students in the school. I work part time at a college now and make $11.00. Accepting that position would change my life, but I would be working full time at $7.00an hour which is the equivalent of the stipend. I said all this to say, it is not about the money but if you are going to do citi year, check out the contract completely before you agree.

@ Everyone Elses - Also, I interviewed on the 18th, submitted my TF on the 19th and it still says under Review. If I am not accepted, I am still going to be teaching during the summer. I am in a master degree program now getting my MS in Nonprofit Management. I started a school in Haiti after getting my bachelor. I have 100 students in the school and next year, I want the teachers to be prepared to start teaching English. If I am not accepted, I will be there doing that. If I am accepted, I will be there doing that after institute. So regardless, life is all good! I really want them to add Orlando to their region. It would be a dream come true.

AHHH! 7 days!! It cant get here quickly enough!

I agree, going to be a long week. Luckily I work for the next 5 days so hopefully it goes a little quicker. Off on the 2nd as well. Might need it since my wife bought a “you got the job bottle, or a better luck next time bottle.”

@IamafriendofGod wow, you started a school?? No reason you shouldn’t get accepted! Like I said, there were so many great people in my interview that I’m sure admissions is having a tough time now.

If I’m not accepted, I’m going to continue in my Doctoral program. So I’ll eventually be teaching but I have to finish the program first. 1.5 semesters down and I’ve managed to keep a 4.0 so as mentioned before, life is good right about now but I would love the oppurtunity to teach with Teach For America because they teach in neighborhoods that I grew up in.

@TFACLE

Haha, my love of my life, as I fondly liek to call him, did the same thing.

I’ve got school and work to occupy myself with but on the weekends It’s kind of a none factor.

@RED0088 Northeastern, Georgetown, George Mason. American, Howard, George Washington and University of Virginia. How about you, what schools are you applying to?

@RainbowDaisyGirl- City Year has been calling me, I didn’t get a chance to submit one of my recommendations, I decided not to continue the process, but congrats. My friend does it in Ny and loves it!!

@crazygolfer68: thanks! I am going to see if my recruiter can get me a copy of the recording… I think that was an option in the past.

My TF status changed today to Complete! Not sure what this means- doing my best not to read into it or get excited about it, haha.

What were everybody’s top preferences for regions/assignments? I am hoping to teach middle school or high school math or science… and most of my top regions were along the east coast- mainly Philly, DC, and Baltimore.
