@CertainlySet I am also in a PhD program so staying in Dallas is kind of high on my priority list. I didn’t mention it in my interview though.

@certainly set…I understand they don’t look at region preferences until they’ve made an acceptance, however I’m a bit worried because it came up during my final interview and she likely made note of it. My interviewer actually served in the Denver Corps and given the fact that I have a son, she asked specifically if I was limited to Denver. It kind of caught me off guard, but then she started telling me about her experience and was very informative about the hiring process for Colorado. You aren’t “placed” per say and once accepted you still have to interview for jobs with the stipulation that you accept the first offer you are given. Anyway, it seemed like a really positive conversation so I’m probably worrying more than I should.

Good luck to everyone!!

@tkass87 I didn’t outwardly mention it, my interviewer brought it up and asked me about my program. Don’t know whether that is good or bad.

@missjonesy I’m hoping it won’t make a difference either way Also, after our group session when we had a Q&A somehow it got brought up that you are not officially “placed” until you have interviewed with a principal and they hire you. I was not discouraged because I am older and have been used to interviews, but I think it caught a lot of undergrads off guard. It is not really made clear or “advertised” on the TFA site that you will have to interview once accepted so I think it would be helpful it they made that more clear. I think it also made the two older people in my group nervous because, as one pointed out, they’d be leaving a job they already had to move somewhere and do TFA, but then there is the possibility they do not get selected by a principal. Our interviewer was completely honest with us and said it does happen but rarely and that we must take the first offer we get from a principal. Their advice to everyone was upon acceptance, immediately go to their school’s career service and start practicing for interviews. I think they said TFA also helps with that process.
Good luck to all!

Any TF update for those that interviewed on 10/19? Mine still says “under review”.

@iTeach Mine also says under review and I interviewed 10/19.

@Tkass87 and @tf2013 I haven’t gotten my results either so maybe they just haven’t been sent out yet. Let’s cross our fingers!

@iTeach

nope, no change 10/19 as well.

@Certainlyset

Our interviewers were also VERY straight forward about the challenges you could face as a Corp member but none of them mentioned that…Good to know. I think the point of contention in our group was that they kind of focused on being able to relate to your students in some kind of way

@Tkass87 They also made a point in my interview session to say it was important to be able to relate to the students. However, we didn’t discuss it amongst ourselves. My group sort of limited the discussion to small talk.

I interviewed on the 19th as well, and I haven’t seen a change. Honestly, I’m not putting too much faith into it. A lot of people from previous years saw a change right before they got a decision, so it could mean nothing.

Also, I think TFA is smarter than to give indicators of their decision before the actual notification date. I just don’t see why they would do that.

@tf2013 and @ Teacherhopeful

Just got my results and alas, I will not be teaching Spanish which is actually quite fine with me.

@SChopeful13
Everyone in my group chatted amongst themselves. I know the background story of every women that was in my group.

@Tkass87 Did you get accpeted? If so what region, grade, and subject?

@luvya683

No no lol, this was the Spanish Bilingual test results. Not my admission decision.

Hey Guys, long-time lurker coming out of hiding. I’m so nervous about the decisions. I feel like I should be ok no matter what happens, but I’ll be sad if it doesn’t work out. @Tkass87 I got the same results too! Will you send me a PM so that we can chat about it? Thanks!

Thanks everyone!

I heard this is the week they will make their decision on who gets in or not. And, next week will just be trying to figure out where they will place everyone.

So, I’m crossing my fingers and toes that everyone here gets place somewhere! Please TFA be nice to us!

Hello, everyone!

Glad to be connecting with you guys! I had my interview October 16th! My Transition application was changed to complete last Friday (October 19th!) Other than that, nothing else has changed. I’m anxiously waiting on the 1ST - I hope we all get it in. What are you guys hoping to teach? I’m hoping to stay in the sciences - teaching either, or all 3 (biology, chemistry, and physics.)

@MinorityDreamer

I’m looking to stay in the sciences, not Physics lol but sciences, history or English in HS or MS. Dallas/Fort Worth hopefully.

@ Certainlyset

I agree. I purposefully asked about how TFA “places” corps members in schools because it is so vague on the website. I was surprised to learn that we still had to go through the hiring process, but it did not change my mind. I think some other people were shocked to hear about that too.

@MinorityDreamer

I really want to teach high school math.

Yo, those whose TF status has changed to “Complete”, does it still say N/A for the part that says “Documentation verifying undergrad Pell Grant”? My application says “Yes” for “A copy of the first four (4) pages of your parent(s)/guardian(s) most recent tax return” but not for the Pell Grant section. This doesn’t apply to everyone. Thanks peeps!

@Tkass87, yea, I understand. I don’t really like Physics, but I understood it so well! I’d much rather teach HS Chemistry and Biology or Middle school (Sciences) in general. I chose the Dallas area as well! Not as a “most preferred,” but it was chosen. For the most preferred, I’d love to be placed in D.C., Eastern N.C., Detroit, or Baltimore.
