Teach For America 2013 Corps

I second CajunShrimp’s comment about numbers. They wanted to know how many people I managed and for how long, and they asked for specific, quantifiable results regarding some special projects I mentioned. They wanted to quantify my leadership roles with numbers, for sure. I was somewhat prepared for that, but I wish I’d thrown more stats out there about my business ownership. The shoulda, coulda, woulda.

Transitional Funding Application Status: Complete

Your application has been approved. You will be able to see your award amount below after the notification date, should you be accepted to the corps.

Cartwheels down the discussion thread

Yes I know it doesn’t mean anything for admissions but at least some part of my app was looked at favorably.

@Certainlyset You can find the webinars on the Admissions Blog under the post titled “Waiting for November 1.” Very helpful webinars for thinking about what will happen after Nov 1!

Keep calm and TFA on. :)

@Tkass87 Does it say N/A in the table beside pell grant? I’m just asking because mine has been changed to complete as well; however, it still says N/A in the table regarding the pell grant.

@SChopeful13 yep, it has an N/A. The TF lady said that I wouldn’t be able to see changing in documents though because she updated it on their side.

Hello everyone,

I noticed most of you applied for the first deadline. Is there anyone who has applied for the November 2nd deadline? Those who are awaiting notification, I hit submit just a few days ago…what can I expect now (as far as timeline)? I know the website has a timeline, but I’m curious what you all have experienced. Will they wait until November 8th to let you know if you’ve made it to the phone interview or could it possibly be sooner?

Thanks a lot!

@TodayIsaGoodDay They will let you know on the day that they tell you, however it will probably be a few hours before the time they post. So in your case, they will probably let you know on November 8 around 2 or 3 EST.

@CajunShrimp I appreciate the feedback and insight! Thank you.

Best of luck!

Thought: Do you think they might consider your review by how eligible you are for TF? I don’t think I will be eligible because of my parent’s income, so they only asked for that – I have no savings, no credit card debt, nothing like that… so they only asked for loan proof and parents income proof – seems simple right :P

Maybe those of us who haven’t had TF change don’t qualify based on proof alone!?!? I don’t know! just trying to make myself feel better here :D

@Tkass87 your making me nervous because my TF status is still under review. Have you been e-mailing them or something if so what did you say so I can tell them the same thing lol…

@luvya683 No, I only emailed them to make sure that they knew that I fixed the document that they needed from me. I had to resubmit my Pell Grant proof. I don’t have credit card debt either, only loans and pell grants. I do have Savings tho, my good ole 401K.

@WildSunshine, don’t lose hope, because again, these are processed by two different groups of people.

A lotta people didn’t get a status update until the day of last year. No worries. BREATHE! INHALE, EXHALE, now take a walk lol

Oh, and my TF status is still under review, for anyone who is tracking that. I’m not too worried about it, though, because I doubt I’ll qualify. I filled it out mostly in case I can get testing or certification fees covered.

@Tkass87 if i’m not complete by the time you see numbers lol then ITS OVER!!!

Hey Teach For America has me so nervous and anxious that I can’t manage to focus on law school. UGH THURSDAY COME ALREADY!!!

@luvya683 haha I may never see numbers though :(

My biggest concern is that my passion for TFA’s mission might not have come across as much as it should have. I just want to time travel to Thursday. I will be quite upset if I don’t get. I will be counting my blessings if I do.

@crazygolfer68 that’s exactly how I feel! I worry that since the final interview didn’t focus on that very heavily, I wasn’t able to talk about it enough.

Also, application part of website (teachforamerica.org/online) is down again. Argh!

@ Luvya683
I should have clarified what I meant by “not worrying about it” I meant that you probably shouldn’t worry what day the survey was sent to you. I was not saying don’t worry about completing the survey. That would be naive! I was trying to say that I doubted that the day you were emailed the survey had meaning. It may have meant that the region that you interviewed in had more people to interview, either way, you got the survey!

I asked about the relationship between TF and acceptance, and I also asked if notifications will be on time, and this is what I got.

Hi,

No, it has nothing to do with acceptance. Our office has been closed this week due to Hurricane Sandy and we are now all working remotely trying to complete all the applications before Notification Day (which we will do). Award information will be available to all applicants admitted to the corps on Thursday.

Best,
Brigid Sullivan
Corps Member Finances

I’m just going to go along with what she said.

@ crazygood31 & @ crazygolfer68

I’m worried about that too. However, I do feel that I was very clear in my written application about all that. Surely if they didn’t feel that you were that committed, then they wouldn’t have bothered to bring you in for a final interview. They supposedly take all of you application materials into consideration when making the final cut. So they saw something, or you wouldn’t have made it this far! :)
