Teach For America 2015 corps-Early Deadline Applicants

Hey I created this discussion for early applicants. I am an early applicant for the 2015 corps and have found its extremely hard to contact people who are early applicants so here it is!

Hey everyone! I live in Springfield, MO, and interviewed in St. Louis. Anxiously hoping for the best!

@courtneyenpointe‌ what region are you hoping to get placed in?

West Coast, ideally. But if I get in, I’ll also preference some other midwest areas. You?

Dallas, Houston, Miami-Dade, San Fran. and a few others! I have made out a whole list based on the need in certain areas, whether or not it is possible to pursue a Master’s degree within that time frame, and convenience too @courtneyenpointe‌

Do you know the percentage of TFA-ers that pursue a master’s during their 2 years? I am definitely planning on it, but I can only do it with the financial support of my parents.

I have done ALOT of research but that I do not know. I know that depending on your financial status TFA does help you out with paying for it though. I also found out the TFA has partnering colleges that they work with for the people in the program to be able to get their degree. but in most of the regions that I researched it is possible to receive a degree in 1-2 years.

Hello everyone!

I am from Washington State and hope to be placed somewhere in Texas!
What are your guys’ undergrad degrees in?

Triple major in English, Math, and Spanish for me. Hoping to add an associates in Early Childhood Education this summer.

@KaitlynKaitlyn‌ im from Washington State too! What school are you at? I go to Washington State University and I am also hoping to go to Texas! it would be awesome if we both got in and got our regional preferences so we could be there together! I’m Double Majoring in Political Science Pre-law option and Philosophy Pre-law option and minoring in Criminal Justice and Ethics. What about you?

@courtneyenpointe‌ Triple major! Nice!

Has anyone done any of the ongoing development online discussions. What did you think and do you think they will effect our admissions candidacy?

@tfa2015‌ they said in the emails a couple times that it doesn’t effect our admissions at all, but I guess you never know

I am a Human Development major with a minor in Psych and a certificate in Early Childhood Education.

@courtneyenpointe‌ if you are planning on doing the ece certificate, are you wanting to teach the younger ages if you get into tfa?

@tfa2015 They say that it has no bearing on our candidacy HOWEVER the more interest you take the more involved it makes you look, which shows your passion to end educational inequity. SO I think its a thumbs up! I have been participating in everything that I have time for but I haven’t gotten to attend the online discussions.

I will take whatever they give me. I already work for Early Head Start and teach the little ones, so I know I would love it, and I also know it is something TFA needs. But something different could be nice too. I’ll pref both elementary and early childhood but I just have this feeling if I get in I’ll get placed as a high school math teacher because they need those…

Would you mind teaching as a high school math teacher or do you strongly prefer to teach the little ones? @courtneyenpointe‌

I think it would be harder for me to teach high school math… But I certainly wouldn’t turn it down. I kind of like that I don’t have to choose completely. Makes deciding what I’m going to do a lot easier :)

Yea that makes sense. hopefully we all get our first preferences after we all get in! @courtneyenpointe‌

5 more days! Our wait is almost over!!
