Thank you @JPTEACH ! I think it went well! Felt very comfortable and intrigued. Interestingly, the interviewer had a welcoming spirit and we had similar interests. I found it interesting that I was asked clarifying questions primarily, and no scenario. Overall, it felt like it went well. Wish I did a PowerPoint with the online format instead. But it’s done now… Now, we wait!
Had mine today as well and it wasn’t FUN but it was still enjoyable haha My interviewers were so easy going and awesome but I was a little surprised with the other applicants in that all of them were college seniors (I was expecting more career changers) and unlike @TFAhopeful26, a lot of lessons at my interview were surprisingly…boring (monotone, lecture only, etc). But I hope we all hear some good news next month!
Hey folks - 3rd deadline here also just went through my (virtual) interview yesterday and I can’t stop thinking about it!
Interviewers were great, really set a comfortable tone
I skipped the phone interviewer so my interviewer said that she had a lot to cover with me, and the whole thing lasted a full 50 mins. Felt very confident in my answers and I had an answer for everything.
Only thing I feel not so good about was the group discussion. I found it extremely difficult and only spoke once because I really didn’t know how to articulate my thoughts.
My top area preferences are Mass, Philadelphia, Charlotte, CT, and Detroit
I cannot wait until Jan 6th. Best of luck to everyone!
Hi everyone! I did my final interview last Thursday and I think it went super well. I was lucky and was interviewed by the actual recruiter for my first choice region :). Halfway through the interview he told me that I reminded him of a teacher he really enjoyed working with, which was such an honor to hear! We also started talking about his region halfway through the interview after I told him that it was my first choice; he asked me what subjects I was most interested in and when he told me that his region didn’t offer my top choice but it did offer English, he asked if that would be something that I’d be interested in teaching and I was like ‘totally!’ So I think this was all a good sign for placement, I hope! Did anyone else get to talk to their preferred region recruiter or have a similar experience?
Oh wow @caroconcerta that is exciting to hear. I wish I could have interviewed with the recruiter of my first choice but I still loved my interviewer!
@caroconcerta I spoke to my interviewer about halfway through when she asked me my regional preference because I asked her about the teaching certification requirements. My first pick is Sacramento and she asked why I didn’t want to pick where I was from because the city really needed the help, but I explained my history of moving around and adjusting to different environments easily so moving to the west coast would be something I’m extremely comfortable with.
My top preferences are Sacramento, The Bay Area, Washington, and DC.
@caroconcerta I got my offer on November 4th, but my interview was in October and I definitely had a similar experience. My interviewer was one of the employees in my first choice region and the interview basically devolved into him telling me next steps and talking about the region. He also implied multiple times that he would see me again and would be working with me in the future, but I tried not to read into it. On offer day, I was so excited to get an email from him. I think if you can relate a lot to someone in your region early on, it’s a huge benefit. I’ve been relying on him a lot to answer my questions now too, even though TFA certainly went out of their way to put me in touch with current corps members and other employees there as well.
@TFAHopeful2016 That is so reassuring to hear! Our conversation basically devolved into where I could be placed in the region and what schools I could work at, so I was hoping that was a very good sign but also trying not to read too much into it (though what am I kidding, I was absolutely ecstatic after the interview!). My first choice is DC, so I interviewed there. He asked me what grade level and subjects I wanted to teach and I said 6th-12th and Social Studies, History or English. He then told me that they didn’t place in Social Studies at the moment but asked if I would be interested in the English programs in DC to which I replied with an emphatic YES! He then told me that I’d do well in English and I’d also be able to integrate history very easily into the subject so that would be a positive. I was just so happy to hear him talking about placing me in DC I probably would have agreed to teach anything haha!
I honestly can’t believe the interview went so well. Once he asked me how my background affected my desire to join TFA I just poured my heart out and I felt like we connected. It was like our minds were completely in sync and he felt and heard my words completely. It was an amazing experience and I’m so grateful to have interviewed with him.
@JPTEACH where did you interview and what are your top preferences?
@ssgradstudent I’m from the Bay Area and know Sacramento very well! It’s an under appreciated, super cute and quaint city. Downtown is adorable. I hope you get your first choice!
I only listed two top preferences: San Diego and Washington, DC
The wait time for the third deadline is so long compared to the other deadlines! I’m sure it’s because of the holidays, but I wish we could find out a little bit sooner. We still have a month to go!
My top preferences are Chicago, Milwaukee, Indianapolis, and Twin Cities (I definitely want to be in the Midwest since i’m from Chicago)
I know I wish I could just know NOW! But patience is a virtue, they tell me… I’ve heard that Chicago is a lovely city!
@caroconcerta I interviewed in Philadelphia and my top choices are anything in Math or science/ Atlanta, Las Vegas, or New Orleans. I am glad that you were able to connect with your interviewer!!!
@TFAhopeful26 I’m from the midwest too and was placed in the midwest!
@caroconcerta I completely agree with you, I felt like I was so in sync with my interviewer and it was a great experience. I still love talking to him, I call whenever I have a problem. I usually never describe interviews as fun but I can genuinely say I enjoyed every bit of my TFA interview.
Are you guys applying for TF? @caroconcerta @lakooh @MoLoveMoGrowth @TFAhopeful26
@JPTEACH I most likely won’t qualify for TF. If accepted into TFA, I think I am going to apply for TF after acceptance depending on my region and the costs associated with that region.
That’s awesome, guys! I wish I could have bonded with my interviewers but other than a couple of shared laughs, it was mostly a interviewer/interviewee relationship.
@JPTEACH I started the TF application months ago and haven’t really focused on it because of TFA but now that I have time again, I’ll probably work on it again just in case I don’t get the TFA offer.
Yup! I submitted a Transitional funding application @JPTEACH !
Sooooooo, I’m trying to not read into it too much. … but, although I felt my final interview went great, I keep falling on the fact I didn’t have a role play question. Did you all have one?
My interviewer and I clicked, she gave many compliments, and even said we have alot in common. My sample teach was prepared for in person (poster boards etc.) But I had to switch to virtual due to a work conflict… unfortunately, there was not enough time for me to create a PowerPoint. This will be a long month lol.
Remaining positive nonetheless.
Hey, @pioneerwoman ,how did your interview go?
