Teach For America-2017 Corps

Also, I wanted to know how many of you got your first choice (highly preferred) region?

@TFAHopeful2017 If you mean after you turn in your assignment preferences, then no they will give you your state and subject. There isn’t any “this or that” type thing. You get what they give you. For example middle school science in Charlotte

Hello! I got my third choice Memphis! Charlotte was my #1 choice.

@TFAHopeful2017 , the only exception (sort of) that I know of to what @Infidelis told you will be if you are in a region with a somewhat more complicated hiring outlay, where you might get a few “options” - that said, while you will be probably be invited to express (a) preference(s) amongst those subjects, grade levels, and school types, you won’t necessarily get to choose which one you want to do, although TFA will work with you if you have some kind of particular requirement. For example, in New York (City - I’m not sure about Buffalo), you might get a few different initial subject placement options (say Social Studies 7-12, Special Education 7-12, and General Education K-9, for example) that you are theoretically qualified to teach under whatever state laws govern teacher licensing. Ultimately, however, your placement subject will be determined a few weeks after you confirm your spot in the Corps according to the demand for teachers of those subjects in your region (in this example set-up, you would probably be assigned Special Education 7-12, because it’s so ridiculously in demand in New York).

I’m not sure if this is particular to New York, though, or if there are other regions with a similar set-up (Chicago? Philadelphia? Washington [state]? Maybe? I really have no idea - I’m just guessing).

In terms of regional placement, New York was second on my “highly preferred” list. Los Angeles was my first choice.

I submitted my preferences. Fingers and toes crossed for Hawai’i! The wait is killing me… jogging way more than usual to help… the 17th couldn’t come sooner.

@LetsTeach17 Someone said in a previous thread that they try to put mostly Asian American and Pacific Islanders in Hawaii as a part of their AAPI Initiative. That could be untrue through. Either way best of luck

Anyone know any code tricks for regional preferences?

@Collegecrazy1996 nope! I think they took that away. Does anyone know what time we’ll find out ?
