has anyone’s timeline gone away at all during this process (yesterday or today), mine hasn’t and i know the last round of candidates said theirs did? also think we will hear earlier than 8pm?
Thank you! This was precisely the information I was after. I appreciate your insight very much. I think its encouraged me to apply for a more high demand area.
I’m doing early decision for the 2018 corps but am also hearing back today. It seems that they’ve made the application portal so that we’ll no longer be able to tell if we were accepted just based on the code. I think the last round of applicants heard back mid-afternoon, rather than at 8pm ET.
Oh, that would be great. Thanks for sharing.
Indeed, I’m hoping to hear back this afternoon as well. My grandfather is 81 today, I’m sure he’d love some good news when I call.
My time line has not changed at all.
Hey guys, check your timelines. I just got in and can select regional preferences! No email yet though!
I didn’t get in.
you all the best.
Welp, I was declined. Good luck, guys!
I got in!!! Sorry to those who didn’t… I wish you all the best of luck with your future endeavors!
It’s ok. There are other opportunities that await you.
Hey guys, how is everyone’s progress? Pass your tests and what not? Have any of you already moved to your locations?
Anyone else from here get Charlotte?
Teach for America did not recruit me. After all of the hassle I went through and the prolonged anticipation on an acceptance letter, I was rejected. I don’t understand how I could be rejected from the corps. I exceeded the GPA requirement and had a successful interview- I’m well qualified. This past week, I was offered 2 teaching positions with different school districts, so it looks like I didn’t need TFA I helping me locate a job after all. To everyone who was rejected, don’t let a biased program as TFA determine your fate/ success capabilities. After discussing my situation with other school leaders, I come to conclude TFA looks for a certain criteria… How do they expect a Harvard graduate or someone of a prestige caliber, who has never struggled, witnessed hunger and socioeconomic Disparities to lead a classroom- a former school administrator told me that most of TFA struggle to adapt to their "low income’’ locations- they have difficulty in understanding the kids because they don’t know what struggle is/communication differences. Think of it this way: a smart suburban college graduate from a top school who has had a decent life of accomplishments is sent to teach at a low performing school where most kids struggle with violence, drugs, homeliness, etc…A total culture shock… I don’t know, but I know others feel like me in regards to their decision…Word if advice: you don’t need teach for America to determine if you can teach. Just apply to schools, interview, and hope for the job…And the process is no way as mind boggling.
@May2017 What do you mean certain criteria?
People who have extensive leadership experience; very involved with campus activities, recreation, student government, community service and like activities.
@May2017 Interesting. I don’t have any of that, but I don’t see these criteria as being an issue? I mean of course TFA would want people who are active in their communities when they are actively seeking people to make differences in low-income communities. Being a leader is important for many jobs especially in education. I don’t know. From your other post it made it sound like you were critical of their criteria, but then you listed criteria that do not seem like bad criteria for companies to seek.
Either way, you said you were offered other teaching positions so it sounds like you didn’t need TFA to accomplish your goals. For anyone else not accepted into TFA, it is a pretty simple process to start teaching in low-income areas desperate for teachers (the areas where TFA serves). Just getting an emergency license and passing the Praxis II will get you into the classroom in most regions AFAIK. TFA doesn’t really offer you anything extra other than the prestige of the program. So, if you want to make a difference, don’t feel like this is your only option. Good luck.
