Teach For America- 2018 Corps

@detpeace I haven’t really looked that much yet, but how do you know which regions have a need for teachers for a certain grade level/subject? I want to go home to Cleveland, but I also REALLY want to teach 5th grade language arts and history. This whole thing is UNREAL!

It’s all in the excel sheet! The last columns say which subjects have high need, medium need, low need, or no need in each region.

As far as I’ve read through various articles, you SHOULD NOT list any regions that you wouldn’t want to be placed in.

I really want pre-k or elementary! Do you guys think that I will be assigned one of these subjects if I high preference pre-k/elementary, preference special ed, and group everything else in least preferred? Some of my favorite regions have a low need for the subjects I most want to teach :frowning:

also @detpeace we have a lot of the same regions. Maybe we will end up in the same place!

Is anyone applying for the October 18 deadline? I am!

Hey @korahh. I am! We’re NEXT!

I applied! I highly doubt I’ll get in though… but I had to try because it’s been something I’ve wanted to do for quite a long time and I’m going to graduate in the Spring.

I did notice in re-looking at my application that the dates disappeared. When I selected a timeline I could have sworn it had dates on the timeline at the bottom of the application and now they’ve disappeared…

Did anyone get an email about an “informal phone conversation”? Is this some kind of interview?

Hi! I had my informal phone conversation yesterday, it was not at all like an interview; more business casual, definitely nothing to be nervous about.

Hello everyone! I’m glad there’s somewhere to connect with future TFA members,

I was accepted early last week, and I agree with everyone on the waiting process- it was intense! Now waiting the regional assignment is even worse lol. Is there anyone who highly preferred English as their subject? And/Or anyone who highly preferred the Bay Area, Mass, Houston, DC, South Louisiana (in no particular order)…please reach out

I didn’t get an email about a phone interview, but I did get an email from an admissions person congratulating me on my application and letting me know I’ll find out if I got an interview tomorrow. She basically just briefed me on the next steps of getting recommenders and doing the pre-interview activity. Is that a good sign or an email everyone gets? Does everyone get invited to a phone interview?

I think they cut out the phone interviews , at least if you were in contact with a recruiter.

I never had a recruiter, so not sure what that means, but hopefully it doesn’t mean I’m out.

I haven’t had a recruiter either. We had recruiter do a webinar at my school, but I couldn’t make it due to time differences and I never did try to get in touch. I’m having some issues with signing up for a time. The first link didn’t work and she sent me another one, but it says no times are available.

It does mention that it’s an informal conversation to tell me more about TFA and their mission, so I’m probably being paranoid.

@ayaros23 I preferred DC and Mass I feel like a lot of people are highly preferring DC which kinda makes me nervous because that was my number one!

@lizabobiza I wouldn’t be too worried, you don’t need a recruiter to get in! I just know that mine told me I wouldn’t need to do the phone conversation because he already told me all about it.

Does anyone know the day we’ll find out our region assignment? Charlotte and Dallas were my top 2! Anyone else?

@ayaros23 I highly preferred D.C. and Mass. I’m actually from one of the Mass subregions so I spoke with an MA staff member about their homegrown initiative which I heard helps. I think I will end up in Mass, but maybe not the subregion I want.

hi there. i also am awaiting an email or notification regarding making it to a final interview. What time does this usually get updated? Does anyone know? I graduated from college 6 years ago so I am one of those professionals looking for the career change to make a difference!
