@Mmbeach4TFA did you get placed! I am on this cycle but reading through other peoples’ experience to gain clarity! I am interviewing in feb. and would like NJ or philly also!
@alwaysandalways we will know our placements on February 12th so I’ll let you know!
Has anyone gotten their transitional funding? I just applied but I was wondering if there was a ballpark figure people are getting. Depending where I get placed I might need some help.
@TFASR2018 I got less from transitional funding than I expected (only a $500 loan). My guess (and this is literally just a guess) is that it has to do with if your parents claimed you as a dependent or not. My parents claimed me as a dependent on their 2017 tax returns (which is what they ask), but once I graduate college this year I’ll be on my own, which I’m not sure whether they take into account. It’s fine and I would rather the money go to people who are really just reliant on this money and are maybe supporting a family on their own, because my parents aren’t going to let me be homeless and will probably give me a loan themselves. The other people from my school who applied for transitional funding also found this to be the case, but I have no idea if it’s universal or not. It’s definitely worth applying because the application is relatively painless!
@TFASR2018 I got about what I was hoping for as transitional funding (a $1700 loan). I have relatively little savings and am currently doing a live-in unpaid teaching fellowship, so I don’t really have expenses but I also am unable to save up money towards rent or a security deposit for once I move to Indianapolis.
I also got a $500 loan, and that’s probably because I have quite a bit in savings from my summer jobs. I was hoping for more, but I think they also take into consideration the region you’re going to. Since I’m going to Arkansas, and the cost of living is ridiculously cheap, that’s probably why I got a small loan. But it is better than nothing.
Last day to submit changes! Has anyone else changed their’s a million times?
@TFASR2018 Oh, mine has had a steady continuation of change after change, haha. The final result is drastically different from the first draft I made. …And naturally I woke up this morning with one more change in mind that clearly can’t happen because it’s too late, but oh well.
I can already tell this wait is going to be so much more difficult than the last, haha. How is everyone else keeping themselves distracted?
I am so anxious that I am almost afraid of what the results will be. I want to just patiently wait and avoid thinking about it but the thought of getting placed where I really want to go and the fear of not being placed where I want to go is too much to think about. I will be happy to just know and get it over with. I took the Eagles winning the Super Bowl as a good sign for me! Maybe that is where I will end up!
Sorry I’m late to the conversation of TF, I got an $1800 grant and a $2900 non-interest loan. This is probably because I received a full pell grant all 4 years of undergrad (indicator of low SES), my parents combined make less than $20.000 a year and I am financially dependent. I have no savings because I am paying my own way through school. I hope this gives insight to anyone else in a similar boat!
Hey guys! Its been a little while but I wanted to know what everyone ended up listing on their regional preference form? I did…
Highly Preferred
Massachusetts
Bay Area
NYC
Preferred
San Diego
CT
Deleware
D.C
Less Preferred
Colorado
Rhode Island
Vegas
@TFAcali2018 we have some overlap with our preference lists so we may end up in the same region or in close proximity! Good luck!
@Mmbeach4TFA Thanks! And cool, which regions?
I ended up with High preference Bay Area, San Antonio, Nashville, Rio grande valley. Preferred:New York, Dallas, Orlando, New Jersey, South Carolina. Less preferred:Phoenix, Las Vegas. She told me Bay Area is a real long shot, so I would be pretty happy with the rest of my list. I have family in San Antonio/I could see spurs games, and Nashville has a low cost of living. Overall I feel excited about all of the regions, I just hope I get History or English.
@TFAcali2018 Massachusetts, Delaware, Connecticut, DC, and Rhode Island
It’s been quiet on here so I wanted to check in and see how people have been during this waiting period, we only have one more day of patiently (or impatiently) waiting!
Oh you know, just slowly losing my mind. I’m more nervous about the subject than the region at this point! Obviously there are some regions I would prefer more, but I would be happy with all of them. I work for a school district and have tomorrow off, so I’m planning on sleeping in and watching tv until the time passes.
Also, does anyone remember what time we are supposed to find out by tomorrow?
I believe it’s supposed to be at 6 PM but they notified about acceptances earlier in the day than what they initially said so?
