Teach For America- 2018 Corps

I’m sure yours went really well! The sample teach was probably my most uncertain section because I think I spoke too quickly during the “I do” part. I finished exactly on time so it’s not like I could have gone slower. And my interview was on Wednesday and I mean the timeline on your application center. Not a timeline but the thing that said “interview, assignment, preferences, etc.” When I log on to my portal I can’t see it at the top.

Waiting for October 16th is going to be torture. I wish I’d been able to use mention more of the core values in my 1-on-1 answers since that was a big recommendation from my recruiter, but I’m glad with how my sample teaching went. Practice really does make perfect

@tfa2018hopeful my timeline is also gone. It may not mean anything, but I think it’s good to share any differences we notice for future applicants.

I interviewed yesterday and my timeline is still present. Were any early applicants able to determine if that was indicative of anything?

@magletir12 This thread has a couple of conversations about the timelines. No one could confirm or deny that they meant anything. I wouldn’t think too much into it. I also interviewed on Wednesday, so maybe it takes a couple of days to disappear and reappear. Who knows. Has anyone else noticed a change in there timelines, if so when did you interview?

I have not seen a change on my timeline. But I still have to complete the last section about the financial aid part… you guys, I feel so much more anxious now then I did before the interview. It’s only been two days but waiting already feels like torture.

This wait is horrible, I completely agree. And maybe the timeline does have something to do with the funding? I did not apply for funding and have submitted everything else.

Looks like my timeline is gone as well. Waiting until next Monday will be rough!

This thread feels so neglected. Does anyone have their potential regions picked out? I don’t want to jinx myself, but it’s so hard to not think about it!

Yeah I wish the thread as more active! I’m trying not to think about regions until I hear back, don’t want to get my hopes up. What about you?

Hey guys, I applied the first early action deadline and was admitted! From what I remember, my timeline was gone. Not sure if that helps anyone or not! The wait was terrible. It was all I thought about. It was even worse because only about 5 people knew I was applying because I was so nervous I would get rejected that I didn’t want to tell anyone and deal with the embarasssment of telling anyone I got rejected. I was thinking of reigons and dreaming of what my life would be life with tfa to pass the time until I heard. However, my top 5 reigons before I got admitted all changed from the top 5 reigons I preferenced. I am going to be teaching elementary school in Houston, and I take my exam on November 16 to get certified!! It’s all so surreal and when I was in your shoes In the process I never dreamed I would be where I am now, planning for my life in the corps. If any of you want to talk more about TFA or have any questions, please just let me know!! I started this thread because I was obsessively reading through all the years prior threads during this process so I know how daunting it is and how comforting it feels to be in contact with others going through the same process. Sending ALLL the love

I would love to hear how your interview went! I wanted to be like you and not really tell people until I heard back, but then I slowly ended up telling just about everyone and they keep asking! I’m trying to just “expect the worst and hope for the best” type of thing. Congrats on Houston though! Was that your first choice?

My interview went SO well! I walked out feeling like I nailed it and it was so much fun for me. I loved my whole day and it felt like I was on a high. Houston and Charlotte were both my #1 choice, and so I was super happy to be placed there.

Yeah I really enjoyed the interview day too. I felt like my lesson plan went off without a hitch… Some of the questions that were asked in the interview I didn’t feel prepared for at all so I’m iffy on those answers which is making me so nervous. I’m also interested in Charlotte!

Hi everyone, I’m new to this thread. My one-on-one interview went really well. I had no problem answering the questions and it lasted probably 30 minutes. They said really nice things at the end that have left me hopeful. Just nervously waiting for the results! Out of curiosity, why do so many people want to teach in Charlotte? I’ve never visited but I’ve heard wonderful things. Just wondering why it’s such a hot spot! Best of luck everyone. Good vibes!

Also, I met with someone on my campus who had been already been admitted (early deadline) before I interviewed. She said when she interviewed, everyone did an amazing job with their teaching samples but she found out she was the only one that was accepted from the entire bunch. My interview group was smaller than hers so that makes me even more anxious! Not trying to be a debbie downer but it really is competitive.

Yeah I’ve heard similar things that like 1-2 people get in per interview group although they do say that we aren’t actually competing against each other. My one-on-one was over an hour, with the interviewer just asking the scripted questions and then reiterating what I said to make sure she captured it all.

I interviewed last Thursday! I am anxiously awaiting the results. I got an email today about places to look into while I’m researching and waiting for my decision. Is there anyway to find out early how we know were accepted?

and my timeline is still up…is that a bad thing then? :frowning: but you can still apply for transitional funding so maybe thats why its up?

I know this wait is long, but we can get through it together. Looking through other cycles, a large percentage of poster got in. So maybe we are the “one out of ten” in our groups. We have to stay positive or this will be an even harder/longer week. I applied last year, and didn’t get in, so this is my second time going through the waiting process, and it’s easier when we have each other to communicate with!

My timeline is still gone, but I applied for transitional funding and completed the process before my interview.
