Teach For America - 2019 Corps

@hopefulbub How was your interview?

@HopingForTFA2019 The first half of my interview went well! I was able to complete my lesson under five minutes and had a good group activity with other interviewees. My 1-on-1 was a little iffy because of how they stuck to the script and didn’t look up much, just typed notes. That part has me worried ?

When is your interview? Are you excited and prepared?

@hopefulbub I’m glad to hear it went well for the most part! I was part of the Early Accepted bunch over the Spring, so i did my interview back in March. I’ve heard a lot of people had that issue with their interviewer sticking to the script, but as long as you did your best, then you’ve done all you can! Good luck!

@hopefulbub I just did my interview yesterday and experienced the same thing with my one-on-one. It seemed more like a Q and A rather than a conversation. I felt good about the whole process until the one-on-one. Now the only thing to do is wait! Good luck everyone!!

@HopefulTFA2019 Hearing your insight makes me feel so much better! I really thought I was the only one who felt like that. Did the region preferences page open for you yet? It’s still closed on mine, even though the date says today.

@HopingForTFA2019 Thanks so much for your well wishes! I feel like the other parts of my candidacy is strong. Hopefully, the 1-on-1 doesn’t have too much weight, I feel like it does.

Yeeesh!!! I just found this thread and am immensely relieved by the die-ease regarding the one-on-one interview… I felt so disheartened afterward, maybe it’s the format… So fingers remain crossed (not mangled)

@Spanish2019 I still feel disheartened with my one-on-one, BUT I’m hoping it’s all in our heads and we’re just psyching ourselves out!

Hi,
I recently completed my interview in Philly and I am currently ranking my classroom and location preferences however, my portal is glitching and the format of my timeline has reverted. Has anyone else experienced this?

@tfaenbie What do you mean your timeline was reverted? I’d love to know, so I can check on my end as well and give an answer.

Once I was invited to interview with TFA my timeline format changed from the initial application (step 1 which includes the essay and resume) into vertical timeline format where I had to scroll up and down to read all 4 steps in the application process. (1.Application, 2. Interview and Recommendations, 3. Classroom and Region Preferences, 4. Make a Decision). Emphasis on scroll up and down to view each step (plus my portal was glitching: the headings on each page moved down the page as I scrolled and began to overlap information outlined on the page). Then after my interview, when I began selecting preferences in classroom and location my timeline design became horizontal and I could see all of the application process on 1 page or would have to scroll left and right to view the entire timeline. My timeline has since reverted to the original vertical design and is once again glitching. Any ideas??

@tfaenbie Unfortunately, I have no idea :frowning: My timeline has remained horizontal this entire time. It’s so weird that yours has been glitching though! The earlier threads mentioned something about the timeline disappearing as a “sign” of being accepted. I’m not too sure if that’s actually true.

Maybe @HopingForTFA2019 might have some insight as part of the early acceptance bunch?

Hi @tfaenbie! Not sure how far back you read, but I was accepted in the Early Acceptance pool back in the spring. TFA updated their portal and website as a whole back a few weeks ago. So the portal looks completely different now than it did when I applied. In fact, the place where the timeline would have been is completely gone on mine now. I have four boxes going horizontally with the steps (interview, preferences, decision, and whatever the fourth one is!). So, while I’m not sure if your format is similar to this still or if it went back, I can imagine that they are in the process of redoing the portal or working out the kinks, and that’s why your pages are overlapping when you scroll and what not. I can tell you that when they first updated the portal, everyone’s preferences were backwards. So for instance, I placed high school Biology as “highly preferred” but when they updated the site, it became “least preferred.” They assured us that it would not affect our placements, but it was just a system glitch. You’re probably experiencing something similar to this. If you’re not able to make your selections because of this, try a different computer first off. Then call TFA and see what can be done. Maybe you can do the selection over the phone if they’re having technical problems. Or call TFA and ask what’s up with the portal, maybe they’re unaware of the glitch.

@hopefulbub From everything I read and experienced in my round, the timeline was a very good indicator. But with the new format, there is no more timeline. I think TFA got wise and removed the timeline to avoid this, just like they removed the visibility on the acceptance code for the website last year.

I figured once I read all 13 pages of comments, I should hop on myself. Recognize @hopefulbub from reddit! Yeah I spent last night searching threw the website code seeing if I could find anything. Mine is still under Applicant/Final Eval. It is interesting seeing all the due dates, and what has been completed so far. I also noticed that my disposition id changed sometime during the process, anyone notice this as well?

Either way, only 9 days until we find out! Trying to keep myself busy lol! Good luck on the big wait to everyone!

I am so nervous and I feel like this is the only thing I can think about lol. 9 days is too long! Sending well wishes towards everyone in the thread, I hope we all get in (because if we are all here, we all want it bad). I am still feeling iffy about the one-on-one. I guess now all there is to do is wait. I never noticed my timeline glitching but it could be because I submit as soon as it opens and then leave it alone. Regardless of the decision on my end, glad we have this thread as a resource!!

What/how can you find something in the website code? I am waiting until the 29th for my decision as well!

is to log on to your tfa account on google chrome, go to your applicant profile, not the applicant center, and look at the code (on a mac you can do this by going to view, developer, view source)

Then scroll down and you will see you name and other info.

what will it say if you got in or did not get in?

They caught on to the code reading before my round and changed it. I checked my code every single day and there was no difference between mine and the people who did not get in. Hate to be the Debbie Downer on that lol.

so is there any way to tell anymore?
