@teacher2019 The timeline at the top of the Portal was a good indicator, not 100%, but pretty accurate. But now that they have updated the Portal, I don’t think there is anything to really tell you anymore. They got pretty wise about people finding out early! Sorry! If it makes you feel any better, I don’t find out what grade/subject I’m teaching until next Monday, so I am also impatiently panicking with you!
aw okay well thanks for the info! best of luck!!!
That makes sense, I guess It’s better than checking the website daily, and overanalyzing each word. I’ll just try to be patient, and wait the 8 more days! @HopingForTFA2019 I couldn’t handle both waits lol. I’m glad I’ll at least find out everything next Monday! Where are you hoping to be sent/what are you hoping to teach?
@JinxedKing I already know that I am going to Dayton, Ohio. It’s been a long long wait. I applied in January, had to wait for the acceptance, had to wait another couple weeks for the region, and am still waiting for my subject assignment! It’s been a long year lol
Yeah I’m glad mine has been confined to the last three months, I’m not sure what I would do if I had to wait a year! Lol. Well congrats for being accepted, hope you get the subject your wanting!
@JinxedKing Thanks! Same to you!
@hopefulbub @HopingForTFA2019 Thanx for answering my question. What’s everyone hoping for location and subject wise? I’m from Pennsylvania but I’m hoping to be placed in San Diego or D.C… I’m flexible on what I want to teach. If I ended up with High School English or History, Elementary Education, Special Education, or ESL I’d be perfectly content honestly.
@tfaenbie Sounds like you’re really flexible! That’s great! I am really hoping for High School Biology, but will be happy with any form of science.
@HopingForTFA2019 If I got Bio I’d crrrrrryyyy haha. And where are you hoping to be placed? (Sorry if you’ve mentioned it before)
@tfaenbie Haha! I would cry if I got history! I was an early applicant so I already know that I am going to Ohio. The early admits just don’t find out grade/subject until October, everything else we found out back in the spring.
@HopingForTFA2019 I honestly can’t tell if that’s better or worse. On the plus side you know whether or not you got accepted 10x earlier. But on the down side there’s the anxiety of having of all the admittance info spread out over such a long period. But then again you may not be an anxious person.
@tfaenbie Oh I’m plenty anxious! I’m afraid that I’ll get saddled with something I really don’t want and then the last 10 months will have gone to waste. However, it is nice that I can already house hunt and find a good realtor in Ohio.
@HopingForTFA2019 Oooo I didn’t even take longer time frame for house hunting into consideration. That’s a valid point. Would you completely decline the offer if you got a subject you listed as low preference?
@tfaenbie probably not, the option to go to Johns Hopkins is too great to pass up. But, if they gave me something like history or something else low on my preference list, there’s a chance I won’t pass the certification tests and even be eligible to teach. So that’s something to consider as well.
I hear back on the 29th and im so nervous/excited! I felt relieved after reading a lot of you felt iffy about your one on one interviews. I think part of the reason they might have went weird is because the TFA portal was down the weekend before our interview week, and it was still down during my interview, so my interviewer had to conduct the interview using a different program. But either way, good luck to you all! Keep us posted!
I also hear back on the 29th. Not really feeling good about my interview at all I felt I didn’t give really good answers to the interview questions at all and struggled to participate in the group discussion. I’m going to feel pretty depressed if I don’t get in and have to wait till next year to reapply.
Hello everyone! I’m also a 2019 Early Admit. I got into Buffalo, NY and will teach ESL (I know this because Buffalo places in so few subjects and the person who does placement for Buffalo told me over the summer). I will find out next Monday what age group I will teach (most likely elementary or middle school). I applied in April/got in in May/found out Buffalo in June.
Like @HopingForTFA2019 I have enjoyed researching housing markets.
I also had a special circumstance for Buffalo! I do not know how to drive so I had to be in an urban area with decent public transit. You can also reach out to folks I believe within TFA about placement as I got a lot of advice from various folks at TFA before submitting preferences. You can also only list ONE REGION for special circumstance.
Anyways, if you all have questions about languages, ESL, Buffalo, high priority, would love to answer! Also been living in CT since 2015 so can talk about the region.
I majored in Early Childhood Education, so I’m really hoping to be placed k-5. In a perfect world, I’d get a second grade classroom! My top three location preferences were Memphis,South Carolina, and then the Arkansas/Mississippi Delta. Honestly teaching is my dream and passion, and even more so teaching students who are in the highest need, and are sadly to often undervalued, and ignored. I’ll be happy with anything, but I think all of us has our preferences!
@florida18593 Yes! I actually remember my interviewer apologizing because of all the computer issues she was having that day. I’m sure you did well! What did you do your lesson plan on?
@Fanta-chan I think we all have an amount of self-doubt after the process to some degree. It’s easy to second guess yourself, but I’m sure you had more positive moments, and points then you think. I know after a few days had passed, and everything settled, I felt much better about my interview. Good luck! I’m sure you have this, but if not there are other alt routes to teaching/ always next year. (I know that’s not as comforting as we wish it was)
@QueerUniDeer Hello! I remember reading all of your posts at the beginning of the thread! Congrats on getting accepted! ESL would be a fun subject to teach/ we really need good ESL teachers. Was Buffalo your top location? I have a high priority location in my top three, So I have a feeling I’ll get put there.
Only 5 more days! o0
Hello! Yes, it was my first choice! I also talked to someone who teaches ESL in Buffalo and she said that with some regions and their needs, they will kinda eagerly take you in, particularly if there is a high need that is specialized (ESL, Bilingual, Special Education). What’s everyone’s high need regions they’re ranking?
Also haven’t met anyone else who ranked Buffalo for 2019 so far.
@HopingForTFA2019 so true, there’s so much to consider it’s a bit overwhelming. Do you think your preferences in classroom subjects and placement have any bearing on your acceptance/rejection? For instance, say I put a high need region in my top 3 instead of bottom 3, do you think I’m more likely to be selected/is this factored into my acceptance?
